Men's Group Massage

Have you heard of or participated in a men's group massage? I signed up for one in Denver and don't quite know what to expect. They are supposed to be non-sexual in nature. Just a group of guys taking turns giving/receiving massage.
I figured I like massage, I like hanging around naked with other guys. Why not give it a shot?

Please share your stories/experiences if you have them...

hey guy...in theory you may think innocent of such an event...in reality think about the event as a bunch of naked guys oiled up rubbing each other...come on non-sexual...geez..just the mental picture gives me a semi...and i consider myself a straight guy...so please attend and prove me wrong...might suggest you take a few condoms with you just incase a pop up happens...or maybe a butt plug to keep you safe...lol

Umm, just what group was this?

I've done it before, but it was very definitely erotic (if not penetrative).

Here's a link to the group website: Colorado Men's Group Massage

They claim to be completely platonic. I have to admit, I am a bit skeptical but it seems legit. I figure if it gets too weird for me I can always leave.

The group website talks about an "advanced" session that incorporates "Body Electric" techniques. I watched the video (CBE clip) on the Body Electric website and it seems pretty "touchy feely" but definitely not a hardcore sex romp.

I'll report back after the session on Friday. If it is what it appears, it seems like a great way to interact with other men interested in bonding on a level typically considered taboo, without sexual pressure...

I've done CBE. It's very definitely erotic-focused complete with advanced genital massage techniques. At CBE there is no penetration and ejaculation is not a goal (though it does happen), but it is still very sexual. The more advanced Body Electric techniques do incorporate manual anal penetration.

If this is what I think it is, then be prepared for the genitals to be included in the massage process.

Thanks for the insight Jason. I somehow had a feeling there could be more sexual orientation than advertised. I may have higher expectations of this session being truly platonic than I should but I figure it is worth a try.

I certainly wouldn't be disappointed if genital massage is part of the experience, though. If the overall experience is positive I may go again. If it feels like a cheesy group grope I won't be back...

I thought about doing the Body Electric course ...but it's not even considered a CEU... *continuing education unit*. It's a course that is mostly to help you be comfortable enough to be naked during a massage as well as the therapist being comfortable being around naked people. *well that was it's original purpose* HOWEVER, friends that went to one of these events say...yah its fun...but still kinda a hook up event and can turn rather orgy esque quickly...

Also too...you never know who's going to show up at one of these things... as a therapist that sees all types...it would be good...but for someone that wants random strange men fodling your naughty bits that could look like a forest troll or Janet Reno... then have at it! :)

I'd opt for a massage from a legit therapist first... then also if you have questions or any concerns about massage/modesty or want to learn the proper way to give massage... go to a real accredited class/school. People that dont know the proper way to touch or where to touch can permanently injure you. Now THAT would ruin the experience for anyone. :)

CBE is definitely not a hook-up event and definitely does not degenerate into orgy-esque activity. It is an introductory course to male Tantric erotic massage. No penetration is allowed at all and the staff make sure of it. If you do, you'll be told to leave. In fact you do learn basic massage techniques. Not all of the massage is focuse on the genitals. The idea is to build-up erotic energy within the genitals and then distribute it around the body, essentially being one giant edging session with body massage to take the edge off. Done properly you walk out the door feeling like a million bucks and really happy because a huge endorphin cascade has been triggered causing you to feel very aware, alert, happy, and relaxed. There were a few straight guys at my CBE and they never felt they were being shopped for meat and God knows I never would have stayed if I felt it was an excuse for a group jack-off.

Looks have nothing to do with it. There were some very fit, young, and hung guys, and there were some old fat guys. It doesn't matter because you're there to learn something. The reactions people get from this are generally far from sexual. Strange things happen. I've seen guys start crying or laughing uncontrollably, other guys get visions and feelings of transportation. One kid was there whose dad had just died suddenly and he had a vision that he saw his father and was finally able to say goodbye do him. He was very deeply emotionally moved. The goal of CBE isn't sex or orgasm, it's building and working off of sexual energy to create a spiritual experience and does so in ways many guys, in fact all, don't really expect. I found it shocking and life enhancing beyond my wildest dreams.

I just was relaying what the friends that went to told me of their experience. They do have CBE events outside of the classroom as well...outside...camping and such. Sounds like your experience was MUCH better than theirs was and I'm glad.:) Also, massage that is considered erotic, ejaculation or not, is actually illegal and viewed as prostitution. Usually not a law enforced unless someone complains.

Lots of people cannot tell you the difference between sensual and erotic. I get those people as clients sometimes and have to set them straight, because they choose to look at a pic and price instead of reading the entire profile. I even had one guy call me...from australia. He told me he was coming to town and the gay travel service that he went thru recommended me for a massage. *working with the type of guy that he was looking for* He actually told them he was looking for his first SEXUAL experience with a guy and they gave him my number from a massage site. So just how the public views massage in general ...that really ticked me off. I politely told him that if he was looking for sex, to hire an escort and that I didn't pay over 25 thousand dollars for my degree to be a prostitute.

Also, I said I was thinking about doing it as well...BUT I have a degree in Neuromuscular therapy/clinical rehabilitation...so I'm VERY weary of people that don't know the body...to touch mine in a massage. I know what can happen injury wise. Like I said...I don't know the inner workings or certifications of this school or its teaching techniques...just what I was told. Some people take the course then offer to teach it to others...this is probably the case of the people i know that took it. Rules kinda get diluted when not enforced at the school by the real instuctors. It always pays to be on the safe side of things and if you're going to do the event...just be prepaired and dont go into it blindly.

Again, I'm glad you got the real experience, and If i ever take the course I would go to the school to do it instead of a meeting somewhere off site just to be safe...

There aren't any Body Electric-sanctioned events outside of the workshop venues. Anything that participants do outside of the class itself is up to them.

The massage-oriented courses are taught by facilitators who are usually licensed massage therapists but if he is not, then one is always present as an assistant facilitator to supervise. There is always a high staff-to-participant ratio so that supervision is always present and classes are kept to the high teens and low 20s to keep things personal.

My last event, which was just two weeks ago, took place at a gay men's retreat in upstate New York. The event ran for the entire weekend and was my third Body Electric event. The facility has a jacuzzi and a sauna, yet the entire time I was there, nobody hooked-up and there wasn't any sex in the showers or the sauna.

I'm really aware of the rumors that go around about Body Electric events. I think people tend to get an idea that anywhere a bunch of gay men get together, lots of sex must occur and that's just not true. Believe me, I was disappointed that there wasn't anything going on, but when you sign-up for these courses, they ask you to refrain from ejaculating 24 hours before and during the entire workshop. Now that rule is lifted for the last day of the workshop I attended and even then, nobody ejaculated during their scene.

You really don't miss it even though you think you would. Sometimes guys do ejaculate. If they do, then you just clean-up and continue on with what you're doing. When I did CBE one guy did ejaculate though he didn't mean to. Ejaculating is cool, but it's not a goal and it's actively discouraged.

Body Electric does train therapists of different sorts in their work. They take all the courses within the school itself and then intern with the school and faculty themselves to learn how it all works. It is not easy because the responses that man have to what happens to them are varied and intense. They actively take a holistic approach to their work and constantly work and review the progress of each participant during every break in work. There's a great deal of care.

I highly suggest taking CBE so that you can experience for yourself what it is like. Many, many massage therapists take the entire Body Electric program (and oddly enough so do clergy (Body Electric was founded by a Jesuit)) because they find it enhances their practice. Here's their website.

Sounds like you hit it on the head... the way they described it...there wasn't many instructors...even their instructor was naked. Things did happen and it got more intense as the seminar lasted. I think some people probably take the course and say they can show/teach from what they've learned. It sucks! It's people like this that ruin the whole profession of massage. I don't know how many times when I say I do NMT/clinical rehab and massage... the eyes perk and they say..does that come with a happy ending! I get so mad. However, my personality keeps me in check and I laugh it off and say no...then complain about it later. hahahha

It sounds like a wonderful experience that you've had. You can tell by the real passion in what you've written. I take my job very seriously as well so thats why I get defensive. No ill intent meant. :) I'll definitely be more up for taking one of the classes sometime if they do it in my area. Always good to know all aspects then incorporate some into your individual massage technique. If you're ever in the area...let me know..i'll show you this side of the genre.

Oh yes, the instructors are naked as are the other facilitators. If they're not there's too much of a power thing going on that makes people uncomfortable. Getting beyond the naked thing isn't tough after the first two hours or so and that's coming from a guy who doesn't look good naked so I may have taken longer than most.

Being naked however, does not mean what's taking place isn't serious.

I've had regular massages before but frankly have a difficult time relaxing because I worry about getting hard. I don't worry so much about the masseur knowing I'm hard, just that it's so damn small. THAT is the embarrassing thing.

I wouldn't be nervous of that happening with you just because I'm acquainted with you and I know you're gay and I'm cool with you as, I hope, vice versa. Otherwise I don't do them any more because they're a waste of money for me.

Right now I'm seeing a sacred intimate/counselor/bodyworker and I've found the experience to be transformative in many great ways. He's fully trained in Body Electric techniques plus others. If you have questions about this entire field, please PM me and I'll be happy to share with you.

Actually doing this with other people and on your own isn't terribly difficult if you have the right equipment. The massage taught in the basic CBE course is nothing more traumatic than a backrub. There is no deep tissue massage or extension of joints. They do teach you some basics of physiology, warn you away from the spine, etc., but really, they're not teaching anything advanced in that first course. I don't think you need to worry because the bodyworker I go to is amazing and applying Body Electric techniques to various massage modalities results in something you're not going to find from an amateur.

Well, I just got back from the group massage and it was exactly as advertised. Nothing sexual or erotic about it. Just a very comfortable environment with a bunch of naked guys giving and receiving massage. In fact, of the 6 guys participating only 1 got an erection. I'm sure the experience has a lot to do with the moderator. This moderator (Devon) was very laid back and made sure everyone felt comfortable. He was the only one not naked, which seemed appropriate because he did not give or receive massage.

The whole thing started with everyone stripping down. Devon made it clear that you could leave your underwear on if you wanted, but nobody did that. He also let the group know who was a first-timer and who had been there before. That kind of set my mind at ease because most of the guys were newbies like me. We started with a short standing circle massage (notice I said MASSAGE, not JERK...:) with each person massaging the shoulders and neck of the guys on either side to get everyone comfortable with massaging and being massaged. After that the first guy laid on his stomach on the table and everyone gathered around to massage. Devon gave some instructions on how to massage (stay away from the spine, where you can apply pressure, where not to, etc.). Each person got about 15 minutes of massage half on the back, half on the front.

Overall, it was a unique and fun experience but I don't know if I'll do this kind of session again. With 6 guys there, you spend way more time massaging that receiving massage. I was glad I waited to be the last person to receive because by then my back and shoulders were getting sore - I needed a massage.

We ended the session with a quick Thai-style massage to loosen everyone's lower back and shoulders - something needed at that point. I know many people will read what I'm about to describe and say "non-sexual my ass" but I swear it didn't feel the way it sounds. The massage involved pairing up and having one guy lay on his stomach with the other guy sitting pretty much on the line between the ass and lower back. Considering that we were all naked, I did have my suspicions about this move... The guy on top then kept his back and arms straight and applied pressure with his hands on either side of the spine. The way pressure was applied was to sort of rock your hips to lean forward and back. That way you could keep your back and arms straight.

Like I said it was a unique experience and had a very positive vibe. I would recommend trying it at least once. Devon said his advanced sessions will have more of the one-on-one massage techniques like the one we ended with. I think that would be better overall because you get equal time giving and receiving massage.
