All this fuss over who pays for President Obama's meals, but don't/won't the taxpayers pay to fly him around the world in Air Force One? That would've been a more fitting retort I think.

Luckily for him, though, the government picks up the tab if he's having a state function at the White House, which could get pricey since the White House's website touts that its five chefs can crank out dinner for 140 or hors d'oeuvres for over a thousand people."

This is ridiculous, the president's income that he earns comes from the collection of taxes.
If the president receives a meal at the white house that he doesn't have to pay for, it is payed for with taxpayer money.
If the president pays for a meal eaten anywhere, it comes from taxpayer money. Obama might still be getting residual royalties from the books that he wrote, but that would pretty much be the only other source of his income he would have other than the $200,000 that he gets for his salary. It is most likely that anything that the president purchases in the next four years will be with money from his salary.
The white house's budget comes from tax dollars as does the president's salary, so what is there to understand about this? Why are the right wingers confused?

If you were wrong in this, I wonder in how many other things you're wrong in. Ass crack talker. :-) | After I made the off-the-cuff remark to the original poster, you came in and asserted that I had made an incorrect statement (you didn't phrase it like that, but that was the gist). I never challenged you on that. I did make a retort alluding to the assinine way you conduct yourself around here.
I definitely wasn't "hurt". I've never been "hurt" on any internet forum anywhere, ever. Nor will I ever be. This is all just blithering around passing the time, like playing tetris, reading a trashy novel, scarfing a giant bag of cheetos, watching a Seinfeld marathon. No emotional investment.
BTW, I am "wrong" sometimes. I have no problem admitting it when I am. I'm not one of those people who will keep responding to a thread, in a desperate attempt to establish that I'm right, that I win, that my insults carried a more biting sting, that I got the best of it, that I absolutelypositivelywon'tbeignooooorrrrrrrrrrrrrrr rrrreeeeeddddddddddddd.....!

Personally, I couldn't care less about things like this. All the big issues going on, and to jump in and sieze on the issue of who pays for some of someone's meals is not real high on my give-a-shit list. If people want to ferret out all the factually incorrect statements I've made and turn each instance into front page news, I won't object in the slightest. I would reserve the right to object to extreme asshole-ish-ness in the course of doing so, however.
In any event, how JuniorHighSchool is it to be waiting in the wings to dive in and lay a "gotcha, you got owned!" post down in the middle of a thread? | | |

And, for that matter, so are the salaries of Merrill-Lynch employees...
There's no line item in the federal budget for "Obama's hamburger and salad, January 25, 2009." He's paid a salary, which he's earning (and earning), and at that point it becomes his money to spend on food and clothing and what-not.
Except for official state functions -- the food at state dinners are indeed paid for by tax fucking dollars.

uh, I don't THINK that Arlen Specter is especially overweight
Now if you said Barney Frank, you might have something (I don't mean the asshole part, though---I've generally got to stick up for those on my side of the debate, even if they are overweight) Quote:

Interesting- I never knew that the President had to pay for his own meals. Wonder how that works- don't see the first lady going shopping at the local Wall-Mart. I guess they tell the staff what kind of food they like to eat and want to be served with. In these economic times I really doubt the Obamas are on a Caviar and Lobster diet.
