Changing room showers, under 25's

Hey, i'm 21. I go to the gym about 3 times a week, and swimming twice. I have done for the last few years. I find it pretty normal to use the 'open showers' afterwards. However, i've noticed quiet a few younger guys don't.
I wonder why? If you are under 25 do you? Does age make a differance?
Seems that allot of guys of my generation are scared to be naked infront of other men, we've all got the same bits.. So why??

at university, there was a real divide between those who used to just shower in the communal showers and those who'd grab a cabin - but it wasn't really an age thing. i guess it's what you've grown up with and what you're used to.

it's not nice when you the atmosphere is super cruisey though...

I’ve conjured – is that the correct word – that us old guys came of age using group showers after PE in school. We think nothing of it.

Something has happened. Maybe school showers are private. It does seem to me that young people’s attitudes about nudity are much more sexualized and young people’s concerns about sexuality are much more heightened than when I was their age.

It isn’t just my old codger presence. When high school age kids arrive for the swim team – they take turns going into toilet stalls to change to their bathing suits. I’d find it yucky. My attitude of a toilet apparently being different from theirs and their idea of letting one another see their peckers different from mine. Again it isn’t my presence. I’ll just be coming and going and can’t believe they even know I’m there or observing their behavior.

And on that subject, being an old gay male, I’m uber-cautious about trying to not be there when these high schoolers are arriving for fear that people might suspect me.

23 here. think showering in underpants/towel dancing is wierd.

Old school and military here. I went through Basic Training back in 1967. I was 19 and nude in HS showers. You sure do lose all modesty once you hit the military. No walls around the toilets, trough urinals, no private showers or stalls.....

Hear this alot. I think it is because gays have become more main stream and guys are now aware that they are sexual object not only by women but also by other guys. When new windows open old ones will close.

I've never really had a problem with it. I used communal showers in HS and college playing on sports teams as well as in my fraternity. The gym I go to has stalls. I don't mind either way.

I could sure imagine, with how pervasive porn is on the net now, where a younger guy could get a complex about not have tree trunk dick.

This is probably the most succinct and accurate statement on this subject I have seen in any of the myriad of posts about changing room behavior. So true.

I'm 22 and shower naked with pleasure. I feel many guys choose the cabin when they can. They seem to be very shy when it comes to stand naked in front of other men. It really puzzles me. It can be true that as more gay guys are coming out,straight men feel "in danger" and under sexual interest of guys too.....also it seems like new generations are a bit repressed when it comes to their body!

I think I have said this before, but I will say it again... I just turned 26 and being in the military there really isn't such a thing as modesty. I have stood in line nut to butt so to speak with 60 other men and lathered up with liquid soap while I was dry just to get 10 second per each of 6 shower heads to rinse of... after that the gym and being able to shower however long you want is a welcome thing. As far as it being a size thing... I am no 9 inches like some of the guys on here but I am at least 7 and pretty thick so I am told. I am proud of what I have be given I think everyone else should be as well. The thing I worry about most is poppin wood lol.

Have no problem with open showers. First time was in Jr. Hi. three years. Hi School, 1 1/2 years were required. Army basic training and AIT, six years Army Reserve yearly 2 week summer camp in barracks on Army post. At least 15 years gym membership. What's to be shy about? I

showering in underwear, doing the towel dance. it all looks silly to me. I used to get boners often in Jr. Hi. locker-rooms. But that didn't bother me. It doesn't bother me now if I get a boner in shower. I just ignore it and keep washing my body. I saw this young guy get a boner in the shower. It was pretty funny, he was holding his dick down with one hand and washng his body with the other. I felt like telling him to just wash with both hands and forget about his
erection. Erections sometimes happen in the shower, so just act like you are at home. No big deal.

You mean the high school boys would prefer to change in the stalls than have their underaged "peckers" out around the old man who posts on the internet message board about them and their behavior in the locker room? I can't understand why.

I can't imagine anything further from the truth. Any guy who is THAT worried about being looked at is also likely the type to relish the opportunity to "beat the crap outa some fag".
The more likely explanation is 1) a generational difference in how people our age percieve nudity compared to our elders and 2) the adolescent fear of popping a boner and being perceived as gay.
