| | No. Not just anyone can be gay. It's a rare privilege, and you have to be approved by the Gay Mafia. | A A foolish consistency is the hobgoblin of little minds, adored by little statesmen and philosophers and divines. - Emerson - |

Straight men can turn a bit gay in prison but it's a compromise, for the lack of women. I'm straight and I can fantasize about another man's dick but only if it's put into the context of it fucking a woman.

Unfortunately anyone can be gay, if it were up to me I would have much higher entrance criteria. The Gay Mafia have it right.

No, not anyone can be gay, no more than I can be straight.
Believe me, if I could have chosen to be straight when I was younger I would have. I used to wish and pray that it was a choice.
Today however, I'm glad it wasn't. Since excepting myself for who I am, I have become so much more happy and lessed stressed, and have found the best partner in life that I could have ever dreamed for | Freud - to constrain sexual drives to socially accepted "norms" is something that we "learn." Why is it so important to you whether someone calls themselves straight or not (unless they choose to berate gays) I Love him 100%, and his 50% belongs to me It takes more love to share my saddle than it does to share my bed |

The only thing I might add is to ask why anyone would choose to be gay. I have gay friends and love them dearly, and it breaks my heart to hear about the discrimination and violence they suffer. Who would choose to be treated as second class? Who would choose the beatings, both emotional and physical, that these lovely people endure? Who would choose the rejection?

As sidebar - when I came out to my adult sons, the one closest emotionally said something like, "if you are gay than I could be gay."
Of course I understood then and I understand now. He is not gay
that I am aware of...

...and I guess it is about how you interpret the question. "Can anyone be gay" meaning "is it possible for any one individual to have a predisposition to homosexality..?" then I would still think yes, it is possible.
However, if, as is being interpreted in some posts, "can anyone be gay" meaning "could anybody choose to become sexually attracted to another person of the same sex..?" then I would have to agree with the above posters who said it is no more possible than I could "choose" to be straight.
Y'are what y'are and you got to make the most of it. Personally, if someone brought out a pill tomorrow that could make me straight, I would run a mile. Im happy with who I am, I wouldn't change for anything.

It's a real hard one. I'd love to have gone without the rejection, parental misunderstanding etc. And yet being at least 50 percent gay feels not just normal but necessary and fantastic when I get it. But if I could feel that about straight sex I would have gone for that any time. So long answer is I don't think anyone can be gay, it's the cards that are dealt to you but you might as well have the grace to love what you have.
