South Pacific

Just watching South Pacific on cable - filmed in 1958 - and noticed the bulge in the jeans of guy playing "Stew Pot"!! HOLY CRAP!! Can't believe that wasn't edited out of a 1958 film!!!!

Anyone know who this is? Or do I have to wait for the end of the movie?

his name is ken clark he died in 2009...I agree what a basket...what strikes me is how much he looks like actor Mark Valley, is there any relation possibly his father or uncle?

Ken Clark - Stewpot on South Pacific

I haven't seen that film in decades and doubt I could sit through it today. Not my taste. You'll probably have to wait until the end of the movie and slow-mo through the credits. But check out if it was Steve Wiland. He was famous at FOX as a choreographer and sometime character actor who was known as "Horse" among his friends. His nickname had nothing to do with appearing in westerns.

It wasn't edited out a 1958 film because such things weren't even on the radar then. People simply did not look at a man's crotch at all. It's only with the increasing sexualisation of popular media in the decades since then, first for women and later also for men, that such things have even become noticeable.

A possible reason his crotch scenes stayed in the movie, it was sold to theaters on a prepaid basis,( not sent out to 1000's on movie house's as is done today) the musical scenes with the odd color tint we never intened to be that dark, but that was never altered, as the movie was rushed out, possibly why we are left with all these great crotch shots... the pic is from a string of spy movies he made in europe in the 60's and 70's

I'm not saying that it's repressed. Repressed implies an active recognition of something that you want to repress. I'm saying it never even occurred to them to worry about it.

VPLs were not edited from movies and television in 1958 because until the 1980s a APL was a common thing. That's the way men dressed back then and it was the norm and was accepted. Most men wore boxer shorts and with the tighter fitting trousers and jeans, if you were hung, it showed.
