Up to the last series I'd have agreed - but I think that this current UK series of 22 eps (now taking a break mid-series until August) has been downright lousy. There have been a few good moments but not many.
Chesney serves no useful purpose now, the Gallaghers have been emasculated since little Liam went at the start of the series, I really didn't want to see Mrs Doyle's tits this week (
) and the never-ending Mickey Maguire storyline is long past its sell by date - it's time that he was outed or came out to give a different dynamic to the storylines. Bring back some of the comedy copper storylines for a bit of variety.
Once upon a time, as well, you'd only get the odd "c*nt" thrown in for effect, this series there seems to be a deliberate attempt to get two or three in every episode, which is just childish and the media trying to push what is socially acceptable.
All in all I think that the series has run its course and needs to be put out of its misery. Normally Channel 4 know when to pull the plug, like they did with "Teachers", before it became a pastiche of itself. I'd rather remember "Shameless" at its best than the current weak offerings.
