Removal of the clitoral hood

Thank you very much Alex, Worried not only about protocol, but also about my tendency to go off on tangents. The High School Year Book voted me "Most Likely To Get Of On A Tangent".

is part of a discussion in the Women's Issues forum that includes topics on A special place for women (men are welcome to participate too).

Thank you very much Alex,

Worried not only about protocol, but also about my tendency to go off on tangents. The High School Year Book voted me "Most Likely To Get Of On A Tangent". I like the "Get Off" part.

For instance in the thread about men with three balls, after writing a cheap and tawdry story about the subject, I just went off on the idea of "correcting" a little boy, with surgery, for something the size of an almond, that for all he new could have been the only potent testicle he had, or later in his life, not only would delight himself, but another as well. And on, and on into circumcision, etc. till I stopped and thought better of posting it. I'll keep it for awile and see if it fits in better elsewhere.

I will post my cheap and tawdry 3 Balls story though. It's a fun one. And a silly Limerick to go with it. After I spellcheck.

Also, not having a clue how these things work, I wondered if there was even room within the very window. Today I found some posts much longer than mine, and a few other things, much, much longer than mine, & now I'm over it!

So bombs away! -Steve

Yea, I do too. When I saw that article I had to grab a mirror and check. I sure don't remember having excess lips, and I don't. Some of this may be hereditary.
Elarging the hood; I would have no idea. I am far too sensitive to even pull at it.
My husband can pull the skin above and that will retract the hood; but he can't touch the exposed clit with his finger, it's just painful. He can with his tongue though.

I can't imagine what it would be like not to have the hood there. Can you imagine siting in a tight pair of jeans? Or swimming in a one piece suit and the crotch rides up.....no, no thanks!

Yes, very true! And the site on pumping, maybe I'm just getting old, but I just kept thinking "why"? I suppose the answer would be "because I want to"?

I agree that circumcision in male or female is a touchy subject. But it should only be done by a consenting adult.
My hubby has a foreskin and I really don't know what a penis looks like without one.
I'm sure I saw former partners, but I was very young and didn't really 'look'.
I've looked at the gallery and now I've seen quite a few who were circumcised. There is almost no difference when erect. Except that the area behind the glans is fuller, as that is the rolled back foreskin.
Oh yes, you can play 'peek-a-boo' with it!

Mumzi, I just took at that website link in your first message, and it turns out to be a wack job physician in Toronto, Canada named Dr. Robert H. Stubbs who actually specializes in phalloplasty. A while back he was boasting that he could give the phallically under-endowed an additional 3" with surgical cutting of the suspensory and fundiform ligaments followed by a program of weights. In the U.S., most of these opportunistic penile enlargement doctors have been discredited and many are being sued up the kazoo.

The penile surgical enhancement business depends on several factors; desperation, desire and the naiive belief in the advancement of the medical state-of-the-art on the part of the patient, and often times unscrupulous pressure tactics on the part of the clinics. Often the doctors are mediocre surgeons at best who are promoted by slick marketing men in the front office. This is a costly procedure ($10-20,000 u.s.) that has bad news written all over it.

I realize this is a labiaplasty thread but just thought I'd give my two cents worth.

A very painful thread to read. Ouch.

We seem to agree that surgical removal of the clitoral hood is repugnant. Unfortunately, this is directly analogous to routine infant circumcision (RIC), which the U.S. has a near monopoly on (some other cultures/religions do it later in life). Except, the male version removes more actual tissue.

I think you cannot sensitize an organ through amputation. It simply doesn't have a basis in logic.

After having my daughter the clitoral hood was attached to tight so no stimulation occurred. I had to go and get it corrected. They didnot remove the hodd completely just made it so it could slide back for stimulation. Looks like it did before not like the pictures

I doubt if they removed any of it. They just freed it up, right?

I feel strongly that it is wrong to circumcise babies or children, except in cases of medical emergency, ie. in cases of acute phimosis (when a boy's foreskin is extremely tight) or paraphimosis (tight foreskin retracted and stuck behind the glans. And even in those cases circumcision should only be used as a last resort.

I also agree that we should beware of slick marketing men and unscrouplulous surgeons. But, speaking as someone who had himself circumcised at age 30 - for aesthetic reasons - I think it's entirely up to the individual. (I prefer the look of a circumcised penis.)

Removal of the clitoral hood is controversial because it's one of those operations that is routinely done to childern by adults - for the sake of tradition. There are more extreme forms of 'female circumcision' (or 'female genital mutilation' as it is now oftern referred to), and I think we'll all be happier when those practises become a thing of the past. But women have an equal right to change their bodies through surgery so, like I said, I'm on the side of the individual.

I used to work on a magazine devoted to body decoration (piercing, tattooing, etc.). We corresponded with several women who had had labiaplasty, including removal of the prepuce (clit hood), and they all seemed very happy with the results. I don't think it's any different to male circumcision. The newly uncovered clitoral glans is very sensetive to touch, but the skin quickly loses that hypersensitivity - in just the same way as it does when a man (or boy) is circumcised.

As for clit hood removal increasing a woman's orgasmic response? I think lack of orgasmic response is almost always due to psychological factors, or simply poor technique, and those avenues must be explored first. However, there are many women who's clit is stuck to the hood. Often they don't know because, etiher they haven't had a really good look, or they don't know what it might look like if the clit was free. These adhesions are just the same as boys often have before puberty (when masturbation usually breaks the adhesions). In men, and occasilnally women, these adhesions can cause a lack of sensitivity to sexual stimulation, or an infection can start in a pocket of old smegma. Those adhesions can be parted but it needs to be done under local anaesthetic. My wife had adhesions - less than 1/2 of her glans was uncoverable - she could have had a little op to free the hood from the glans, but instead opted for a vertical clit hood piercing. We reasoned that the ring would slide around under the hood and gradulally break the adhesions. We were right. When we resumed sex after the piercing was healed she would sometimes feel a little tear as more of the adhesion parted. A week or so later, for the first time in her life, she experienced orgasm through intercourse alone. We were thrilled. I believe that it might have been to some extent a placebo effect, but it doesn't really matter. The main thing is that she was (and still is) able to come like a freight train when we fuck.

Except for a tiny adhesion on one side of the coronal ridge round her glans, her clit head could now be revealed. Perhaps to celebrate, she wanted to wear a ring in her clitoris. But so that the hood would not press down on her clit ring, and in order to show off her newly decorated clit, she had the hood divided vertically to give it a 'middle parting'. This is an alternative to having the hood removed. We think it looks pretty neat. If anyone would like to see a picture or two, I'll ask her if she's happy for me to post a couple of photos on this thread. (She's on holiday in Venice with her mum at the moment.)

On a personal preferance note: I quite like long labia. But if someone wants to make changes to their body, it doesn't necessesarily mean they're sad, sick, or mad. (What about all us guys on the forum stretching and pumping our cocks? We're not mad, are we?) I think it's quite sexy if a woman decides to alter her body to make herself feel good, whether it's body building or hair colouring, the odd tattoo, piercings. Oh yes!

Labia trimming? Go on! It rocks! Clit hood trimming? All the better to lick you. Yeah baby. Go for it! You only live once.

The June '06 issue of Playboy magazine has a story on this very topic... and names Dr. Gary Alter (now there's a name that works!) among the docs that perform this quackery. This invented need for vaginal enhancement/labioplasty sounds as believable as "Restless Legs Syndrome" (didn't Seinfeld call that "the jimmie legs?").
