Interestingly, they aired this clip in the US last Sunday evening as the opening to a real Simpson's episode -- but they mirror-imaged the scene with Marge and Maggie in the car so that it appeared to be a left-hand-drive car they were driving.

Ah, The Simpsons.... still one of the best shows on TV, and arguably one of the best satires ever conceived.

Yes, I agree, The Simpsons is some of the best satire that's ever been on TV. People take it on the surface level, but it's a satire...they just don't "get" it! :)

Strangely enough, Homer is in a left hand drive, Marge is in a right. I think it wouldn't work Homer being in a right because he'd have to throw the radioactive bar across a seat rather than straight out of the window.

In the British version, Homer drives a left-hand-drive car; this allows the radioactive bar to be thrown out the window (as steve2727 mentioned), as well as the ending scene where he hops out of the car just as Bart skateboards over it -- the 'choreography' of these scenes wouldn't work in a RHD car.

I wouldn't call that a 'goof'; I'd say that having originally placed Marge in a RHD car was the goof.
