I am trying to decipher your post. But here's the scoop. Newt Gingrich said last night on the Jewish Channel that Palestinian People are an "invented" people which caused an uproar among officials of the Palestinian Authority.

New Gingrich is symptomatic of the ignorance of most Americans. Most Americans, including many of many of our national leaders, do not read history! The Jewish people were expelled from the Holy Land after the destruction of the Second Temple in A.D. 70 by the Romans. Later on they did settle again in small communities in Palestine, certainly after Islam became the dominant religion under the Arabs after the Prophet Muhammad's death in the 7th century and the Arab invasions soon after. In later centuries, Palestine was under the domination of the Ottoman Turks. Christians, Muslims, and Jews lived in peace during those centuries. But Palestine was inhabited mostly by Muslim and Christian Arabs. Thus Palestinian Arabs can hardly be called an "invented" people.

Zionism upset things for sure after World War I in 1917 and especially after the establishment of the State of Israel in 1948 when many Arab Palestinians lost their homes and cities and were forced into refugee camps. Since then, not only has there been turmoil in Palestine but also in the whole Middle East!

HE thinks a folk named palestinean doesnt exist... By some unnamed "fakts" they are just arabeans. Also they have only an arabean history...

Because of this HE says obamas foreighn politics far from every reality... He shouldnt help the palestinean to create a state cause "they dont exist"...

Thanks, baby: the fact remains that both Israeli and Palestinian were terms invented in the late 1940s. Prior to that, everyone who lived in "the holy land" were equals.

I can be completely not anti-semitic while remaining an anti-Zionist. It's only been during the last few years that such (artificial) boundaries have been drawn in the sand.

It's a shame when labels divide rather than unite people with a common understanding of the betterment of humanity in an extremely fragile reason.

The problem is that New Gingrich is smart and sly as a fox, following in the path of Dick Cheney and company which led us into the quagmires that are Afghanistan and Iraq. His being elected as president would be bad news for our country.

It is only the geographical designation of "Palestine" that has been passed down from the Philistines. Arabs moved into the territory during the Muslim conquests of the 7th century C.E.

As BigGlansDC pointed out (to the OP), Gingrich said "invented" people, not "fictitious" people. An invented people is none the less existent for having been invented. What matters is how durable the invention is. The Jews are an invented people; it just happen to have been invented about three thousand years ago.

How do you reckon 1300 years? That would be a plausible dating for the Arab people, not a Palestinian people. Where was there any thought of Palestinian national identity before the 20th century, or even before 1948?
