Truly, the MAP isn't something to take lightly. It is, as has been said earlier in this thread, a massive dose of hormones, taken all in one hit. For some people that can have some negative side effects - bleeding, vomiting, mood swings, etc. But for many it has no noticeable effects.
It should never be considered a primary method of birth control (who knows what kind of effects it could have if used as such), but for those times when it's really needed, it's invaluable.

I find it interesting that you've known guys like that because, although I was told again and again that guys WOULD try to convince you not to use one, I've only ever had one who actually tried (he didn't succeed!).
I think young people need to be taught early on how to be strong enough to stand up for their own sexual and body based rights. I think they also need to be educated on each of the different methods of birth control, and on how sex, pregnancy and STDs work.
Because I WAS taught those things, I find that I struggle to have empathy for those who aren't knowledgeable or strong enough to stand up for themselves. It's obviously unfair of me, but I can seem to change it
. I just wish everyone was taught those things.

I very much agree the awareness part of this, however I also think people need to take responsibility for their own bodies and behaviour. Even when medication doesn't come with a CMI (the bit of paper that tells you about side effects and stuff), you can always look it up on the net.
To be honest, I think having it in vending machines is probably putting a little too much responsibility on the consumer. Many people just aren't responsible enough about what they're taking. But yet, I also have the other side of me that thinks that it's not the government's job to parent them. If you're old enough to be fucking, you're old enough to take responsibility for your birth control.
While the chemist is much more convenient than having to see a doctor, in my experience they're more over protective than my doctor is!! They asked me 1000 questions and insisted on giving me a whole bunch of info I truly didn't need (because I already knew it).
