I think it's case by case. Everyone has different lines, and because of that I think it tends to be a very touchy issue. I've had partners in the past that were pretty open and kinky themselves, and so it was easy to be open with them; but others, it's definitely been a topic that was mostly off the table or took a lot of time and was talked about gradually. I think it gets down too how accepting the person is in general of the idea that everyone has rough edges and an inherent weirdness, despite appearances. Some people are too judgmental or just haven't lived enough to realize that; I was with one young woman who freaked out that I looked at porn online and would still masturbate occasionally while we were together, which seemed totally normal to me but was a big deal to her.
