| | Everyone Boycott JC Penny!
We are in a huge cultural war right now! (apparently) The war against gay and lesbian culture? (I'm just assuming here) JC Penny released a shopping catalog featuring 2 happily married lesbians. We can't allow this to happen!
Why? I have no fucking clue.
SO DON'T SHOP AT JC PENNY! Again I'm not sure what the big deal is but it must be serious!
Also, be sure to call and contact Store Managers. I'm sure they would really love to take time out of their high stress job to hear your homophobic complaints they have no way of changing. One Million Moms.com - Issue details http://calendar.jcpenney.com/may/#!book/thebook/10

I don't like it when someone tries to shove their agenda down my throat. And, as a conservative I'm supposed to be very offended by gay couples. :)
But, y'know what? They're not shoving their tongues down each others throats, or having gay sex on the page. The only thing they're doing is displaying affection for their kids, and for each other, by holding hands.
Maybe I ought to be, but I'm not offended. It's just a lovely photo of an attractive family. Quote: It is obvious that JCP would rather take sides than remain neutral. JCP will hear from the other side so they need to hear from us as well.
...store manager saying "Thank you" and walking off while their customer and our concerned members were in mid-sentence. |
*This* however does offend me. People will have opinions and, sorry guys, but showing an openly gay family under the heading "freedom of expression" is going to cause a backlash.
It does not appear that JCP is willing to hear a dissenting view, which *should* be a point of concern.
JCP can choose not to cave to the pressure, but the Million Moms have every right to complain, and to be heard.

JCP can choose not to cave to the pressure, but the Million Moms have every right to complain, and to be heard. | Store managers really don't have a lot of power. Corporate decides what to do, and then the store manager makes sure it gets done. When I worked at Walmart everything was controlled by corporate. The stores heating, air conditioning, prices, and store layout. The corporate headquarters is god of the store and the store manager is the guy who makes sure everything gets done. So you can be sure that telling a store manager that an ad is offensive is a waste of time.

Of course it's a waste of time. But, having a company policy that involves walking away from the upset customer while she is in mid sentence is just rude, no matter the motivation.
Never once did I say that the manager was the proper person to whom to deliver a complaint. And, turning it around, I certainly never even implied that the moms should be rude to the manager.
I just said that they have the right to complain, and that they should have a reasonable expectation of being heard.

Isn't "live and let live" the ultimate conservative ideal? Why does the Republican party establishment not understand this?

Who said they were a customer? One million moms is already mid boycott on JCP. If a paying customer complains about product, prices, or services, they have a right to complain to a manager. If a disgruntled jackass off the street is complaining about an add they saw, well, the store manager has no duty to speak with them.
As to a right to complain to SOMEONE at JCP, and have a reasonable expectation of being listened to, well... not really. They certainly can complain. And they will, and have. But there is no law that says anybody at JCP must listen to someone who doesn't like the content of their ads. It is, in fact, a free market, and as a company, they can do what they want. You certainly have a right to disagree with them, but really no right to be heard.
