a 20 year PEW study concluded that the BEST states for realizing the American dream to live in were:

New York
Maryland
New Jersey

The worst states to live in were:

Oklahoma
Louisianna
South Carolina

Are we really surprised that states with HEAVY Democratic representation were better to live in than states with HEAVY Republican representation.
It goes to prove that adage Democrats care about PEOPLE and their livelihood, whereas Republicans care about Corporate America and making as much money for the wealthiest in the nation.

ive never gotten the whole "texas (or any other state) is the best state" humor or POV.

the whole state vs state thing bugs me more than nationalism.

I don't know which site it was, but there was an article that said the northeast was the best place to ride out the recession and the south was the worst

Except too many in Texas actually believe it. I was traleving on business to Dallas and I went to eat dinner in a bar. Talked to a cute girl and after a while we talked about where we were from and she started bashing NYC, I was in a good mood so I went long with it. Then I turned the tables and talked about the bad things about Texas. Her response was classic. You can insult where you are from, but don't ever insult Texas..The funny thing was she was a transplant from Nebraska

Well if I were from Houston I would have just killed her, Y'all. Stereotypes can be fun when they are intellegent. The accents you are referencing are for Brooklyn and Queens mostly.

A Texan, a New Yorker, and a New Jersey resident were drinking . . .
. . . their favorite beverage in a bar. The Texan drained his glass of tequila, threw the half-full bottle up in the air, drew and fired his pistol, shattering the bottle.

The other two were shocked at his ruining perfectly good tequila. The Texan, however, simply drew himself up and announced: "Where I come from, we have plenty of tequila."

The New Yorker, not to be outdone, drained his glass of wine, threw the half-full wine bottle into the air, drew and fired his pistol, also shattering his bottle. Looking over at the other two with an air of superiority characteristic of New Yorkers, he announced, "Where I come from, we have plenty of fine wine and the best of everything."

The New Jersey resident drained his bottle of Yingling Lager, threw it up in the air, drew his pistol and shot the New Yorker dead. He then caught the bottle on the way down and showed it to the Texan: "Where I come from," he said slowly, "we recycle bottles...and we have too many New Yorkers."
