i gotta think it depends much on the individuals....i know of relationships where there is no traditional man/woman roles at all...one of my best friends has one like that...there are no husband / wife roles at all...they both work but she has the primary income, he maintains the house inside and is much more "nurturing" to the children than she is. she is the dominant "personality" yet he's physically the dominant one...total bad-ass blackbelt martial arts guy...it all seems very "fuzzy" to me, but they have a great relationship, been together 30 yrs, have 2 kids...
i also have a good friend with the exact opposite, very defined "roles" and same result...been together 30 plus yrs and have 2 great kids.
and then there's me...i had a "blurry" relationship with a woman that wanted to be dominant...i tried to make it work as best i could but eventually couldnt take it and now have a relationship with a woman that wants to be the "woman"...and me to be the "man" which seems to work better for me personally...
