| | unclean sex toys?
O.k. A woman at work is a lesbian. She is in a long distance relationship. Whenever her partner is in town, she gets "sick" for several days and can't come to work. Whatever.
This last time though, she seems sick for real. A very serious UTI, evidently. Pain, fever, vomiting, diarrhea.
One of the other women at work said, 'I hope the fun was worth it' and said something about un-hygenic sex toys being the likely cause.
I'm claiming naivete here. Is that possible?

Firstly discussing co-workers sex lives at the office is so unprofessional it just isn't funny.
I'd be more worried about the culture of sexual misconduct in your office than I would be about a coworkers cunt.

First of all lesbians arent the only one's who buy dildos. I have had many UTI's from dildos. It seemed like every time we got a dildo out, no matter how well it was cleaned I'd get a UTI. I'm think maybe the soap was irritating, or maybe it's too hard to clean without steaming or sterilizing somehow. Its not as bad now but dildo's are notorious for causing bacterial infections.
Obviously, with all this said you cant say anything to her about it!

First, sex toys should always be thoroughly cleaned in hot water with an anti-bacterial soap. Cleaned immediately after use. Before being inserted into someone else, they should be re-cleaned/sterilized. It only makes sense. You don't eat dinner with your dirty breakfast dishes and utensils, do you? No, you clean them. Proper lubrication is also essential, which can minimize tissue abrasion, which will lower chances of SDT and other infections.
Second, unless your workplace lesbian mentioned her specific practices at work, I think it is a silly guess to say that unclean sex toys caused her illness. Most people don't get sick from their sex toys.

This is why all the things that go into my bodily orifices are non-porous and can be sterilized. Glass, metal, or silicone. You can run them through a dishwasher or drop them in boiling water. I also have an anti-bacterial spray on toy cleaner that I use before I go wash it in hot water/soap to remove any residue. Spray on toy cleaner
Anyway, it could be other things entirely. There wasn't enough information supplied... but I figured I would post info on what you're supposed to do with toys, hopefully for the benefit of others.

Obviously, with all this said you cant say anything to her about it! | Not doubting you, Seaside, but I have never gotten anything from a sex toy (or anywhere else, thank God). Can't speak for the female anatomy, but if you keep them clean, I don't know how a dildo would get you ill. Unless you were using one that was too big for you, causing minor tissue damage, opening you up to infections.
Regarding the second point, I think she should be directed to her doctor if she's having medical issues. Discussing your health issues with your non-medical coworkers to me would be unprofessional, unhelpful, and exceedingly embarrassing. But whatever. I'm no lesbian, so what do I know?

It is possible to get a UTI from unclean sex toys. Sometimes you get infections because you aren't lubed up enough when you do yourself with a dildo. But using unclean toys....that's just nasty !!
I always wash my toys with very hot water and soap and let them air dry. The glass dildos go straight into the dishwasher !!!

As to the UTI's, some people are just more prone to them due to anatomy and/or genetic make-up.

But we're a small organization, there's a lot of stress, people are under paid and under appreciated, so if they want to gossip I'm not going to stand too much in the way.

dirty toys can spread bacteria and STIs.
if ya using a toy shaped like a peen treat ya toy like a peen.
if ya using a toy shaped like a dolphin being ridden by a kitten holding a pokemon treat ya toy like a peen.
if ya sharing ya sex toys with anyone use condoms on the toy.
wash ya toys in hot water and anti-bacterial soaps between uses.
use a spray cleaner like the one Fade linked to.
10% bleach/water solution soak over night.
allow to dry thoroughly before using.
store in a clean container/toy bag *don't keep ya dildo in ya bedside drawer.. spiders!! people!!*
