Not first hand experience, but knowledge of it (some guy at work has one; he's called "The Bionic Penis"); last resort effort , after taking into an account of your medical history and your family's medical history. And knowing that the other drugs and efforts do not work, etc.

Well, it's better for woman than me. And you might find a loss of an inch or so. After the implant, the other drugs will not work.

If you have diabetic caused ER, weight loss and exercise will help.

Etc. But the subject covers more ground that what information you gave and what I just covered.

I've upped my standards. Now up yours.

Dear Friend,

I think that they work; we seem to have had a number of them in the VA when I worked there about 20 years ago.

I do however remember one young guy between the age of 35-40 who I think could not get it up due to childhood diabetes; he said, "Wow If I had know this surgery was going to be so painful...I would have never gone through with it".

Since, he was on a surgical floor, I just told him to request more pain medication.

I would phone your local university connected hospital: ask for department of urology and urological surgery and ask for an appointment for evaluation.
don't be embarrassed to do this; state universities receive tax money to be available to give advise to taxpayers....ask for the department head if you need to.

Three things I would get cleared up:

1. Will this give ME satisfaction, e.g. an orgasm via the peripheral nervous system?

OR:

2. Is my "mechanical erection" only going to provide satisfaction for a partner?

3. Are there new medications either now available or that will soon be available that will be useful to me and hence having this surgery would destroy some of the very tissue and nerve endings that they would work on?

I don't have the answers. But they are important questions which a good university urology department can answer. Let me know if I can be more helpful....or develop more questions for you.

Your friend,
texasbuddy

I don't know where you live , but there are internet sites on penile implants .
I have read a comment from an older guy on here who has had an implant and says it is splendid . Depending on the implant the surgery can be quite painful at first , the 3 part is more complicated , but the best .
I would go for it myself if I could afford , but haven't yet found the price in Thailand where I live .

They actually have a pump that isnt a terrible surgery , I think you only stay one day in the hospital and off work for a week . I work at a major hospital and one of the doctors here does a lot of them .

The New York Times had a good article August 29, 2009.
Maybe you can still get it to come on line:
"Viagra and Its Ilk Aren’t the Only Treatments Around"

Finally, if all other treatments fail, you could consider getting penile implants, an effective and permanent solution for chronic E.D. The most common type of implant works through inflation: two cylinders are placed inside the penis and a fluid-filled reservoir is implanted under the abdominal wall or groin muscles; a pump and a deflation valve are placed inside the scrotum. To create an erection, you pump fluid from the reservoir into the cylinders. To deflate the penis, you press the release valve.

Most insurers and Medicare cover the surgery, so your out-of-pocket costs will be minimal. This might be the most cost-effective strategy of all since, according to Dr. Nehra, 80 percent of implants last 10 years.

Have you looked into the injections as well? I would examine as many options before surgery as possible first.

I may be wrong but it is my understanding that the injections can actually cause Peyronie's Disease (sharp bend in the penic causes by hardening and shrinkage of the erectile tissue) which, in turn complicates the choice of and implantation of implants and results in loss of length.

I also have a big dick. Making the decision to get an implant was a difficult one. I had my surgery on May 31, 2013. My dick is still big, a little fatter too. Only drawback right now is the pain and size of the pump as I have fairly small testicles.

This can happen but in only very limited cases. I have been using single-mix injections for twenty years with no ill-effects and very good erections. When implants work well they work well but should there be post-operative infection, a replacement of the infected implant does not guarantee success.

These questions are dealt with extensively in a website called franktalk.org. I'm scheduled for implant one week from tomorrow.

A penal implant seems very invasive. I've seen on tv/websites where some men with erectile dysfunction have had pump systems put in. Like in their balls. So to get hard the dude squeezes his ball(s) to pump up his dick. This makes me squeamish. I can't stand the idea of it.

This sounds like a conversation you want to have with your doctor and a specialist if you haven't already. If you're not at that point yet and you'd like some more professional advice than LPSG (I know there are pros here, but they aren't acting in that capacity), then you might try calling Dan Savage, host of The Savage Lovecast. Call his 800 number and leave your question.

I appreciate your concern but have talked about this with my regular doctor, my urologist, and of course the urologist who will be performing the surgery. The surgeon does the most of the procedures of any surgeon in California (ie. the West Coast).
