We will never surrender!

Posted 6 Days Ago at 03:00 PM by Adrian69702006 (Adrian's Musings)

Fifty years ago today that great wartime leader and elder statesmen, Sir Winston Churchill, breathed his last. Prime Minister during the darkest days of World War II, Churchill was an exceptionally gifted tactician, strategist, statesman and orator. He was also a man of immense personal courage and an iron will.

Churchill famously wrote his own speeches and, in doing so, gave the world a literary gift unparalleled in modern times. He had a way with words and a talent for brilliant...

Defending Free Speech

Posted 3 Weeks Ago at 05:56 PM by Adrian69702006 (Adrian's Musings)

Yesterday, when the New Year was barely a week old, twelve defencless individuals were gunned down at the Paris offices of satirical magazine of Charlie Hebdo. This wicked and cowardly act was committed, we are told, by religious extremists in the name of Islam. This morning a Paris policewoman was gunned down in what may possibly have been a related act, although at this stage it remains to be confirmed.

There is a perfectly reasonable argument that the exercise of free speech also...

A Freudian slip!

Posted 10-16-2014 at 07:18 AM by Adrian69702006 (Adrian's Musings)

A wise choice

Posted 09-19-2014 at 05:26 PM by Adrian69702006 (Adrian's Musings)

This morning we awoke to hear that in yesterday's referendum Scotland's electorate had, by a modest but sufficient majority, resisted the lure of independence. We sincerely believe that our Caledonian friends have chosen wisely and that Scotland's best interests are served by it remaining a part of the United Kingdom. For a while at any rate we can breathe easy knowing that the legal, constitutional, financial and economic uncertainties which a vote in favour of independence would have triggered,...

Better Together

Posted 09-12-2014 at 11:50 AM by Adrian69702006 (Adrian's Musings)

A week from now, the people of Scotland will have taken part in a referendum which will determine whether or not Scotland remains part of the United Kingdom, the outcome of which could potentially have significant economic, political and constitutional implications. We hope sincerely that the Prime Minister doesn't have reason to regret allowing a referendum which could change the makeup of the United Kingdom to an extent unknown for the last three hundred years.

Until fairly recently...
