Invisibleman's Relationship Theory of Artist and the Audience.
A great artist is judged by how his or her art is received. When we look at an artist's work...(artist's work can be anything). We as an audience can react to it--positively, negatively, or neutrally. We have a reason for our reactions.
An artist creates art for a reason. The audience responds to it for a reason. The artist and the audience offer feedback to each other. The artist can explain his work:
Why was it necessary to create this work?
What was the creative process?
Why did you do certain things in there in that certain way? Etcetera.
An audience is to be entertained, educated, inspired, and respected. An artist should be in a space to be able to create. An artist needs support. An artist wants respect from peers and from the audience.
An artist must never placate the audience. Never be afraid to explore or take risks.
An artist must resolve to the fact that the audience may never understand or appreciate their work. But that doesn't mean that no one will understand.
The audience may have all the reasons why they didn't like an artist's work. Like artists, audiences aren't always right. An artist can take in consideration in which an audience perceived that work and take notice. But the artist doesn't have to change or amend his/her creative work. The artist may have created the work from an entire different set of criteria than what the audience critiqued from. If an artist decides to amend his/her work for the audience: whose work is it now? The artist's and the audience's? Besides the audience has a right in not liking an artist's work. Another audience may like it.
