An update and apologies.

Posted 04-25-2012 at 12:52 PM by ManofThunder

Hello! I hope you're all well. You have expressed some concern about me (you're all very lovely). I'm touched that you even noticed my absence. So, I'm writing this to let you know what's happening. For those of you that don't know, I haven't been around as much lately. Sorry about that. The reason for my absence is not depression, as some of you have suggested. I'm not dying, either. So, please don't worry. I'll explain from the beginning.

At the end of last year, I began to feel strange. My appetite was unpredictable and I felt mildly sick. I ignored it and assumed it was just an upset stomach or something. Having moved to a new house, I had plenty of work to do. Foolishly, I continued to ignore the sickness. The work continued and a week turned into a month - a month into two months etc. When the work ended, I realised how much worse it had become. Awful stomach cramps, erratic appetite, sickness, headaches, lack of energy - I couldn't concentrate and felt terrible. It's hard to explain, but it felt like I had swallowed a rotting rat, or something. My stomach felt full, but not in a good way. Eventually, I began vomiting. Bloody horrible. I had this awful taste in my mouth that wouldn't go away. (Again, the rat comes to mind.) Around that time, my mind exploded. I couldn't think at all - I did some stupid things like getting in the shower with clothes on. Honestly, I thought something was seriously wrong. With my mind in that state, I decided to avoid LPSG. (My posts had already suffered; in a PM, someone called me 'Plenty O'Toole' and I didn't even think to send this as a reply, along with a remark about my breasts not being big enough. )

To cut a long story short, I was feeling sorry for myself. Alone with my thoughts, I felt lonely and without friends. I have lost a lot of real-life friends, but they weren't really friends in the first place. Basically, I wasn't depressed, but feeling grumpy. I started to think the sickness was stress-related. After another week of thinking, I decided (because I'm a genius) to go to a doctor. I know, I'm brilliant - it only took me a few months! They told me it was food poisoning and that I needed to drink and purge my system. A week later, I didn't feel much better and wondered if the doctor was mistaken. I realise now that I wasn't being sick enough - I wouldn't let myself. So, it lingered. A very slow-burning case of food poisoning, it would seem.

Now, I'm feeling much better - 99% better. However, during the sickness I allowed my finances to get out of control. My own stupidity, once again. I can sort it out, but life is busy at the moment. Thank you for your concern and don't worry - I'll be back. ManofThunder, signing out.

Poor baby! So glad you finally saw a doctor.

Just in case your illness is lingering or you never return to 100% you may want to visit a specialist clinic, there is a great one in London, it's called The Hospital for Tropical Diseases. It's been a while since I was in need of their services having been travelling in Asia and the Middle East in the 80's and 90's.

You may not have contracted your case overseas, but this clinic will test your blood and stool samples for EVERYTHING imaginable and they have access to all the best treatments to clear it up. They are great and world renowned.

Please bear in mind that over such a long period you may have sustained liver damage and if you drank alcohol or have had hepatitis you could have kidney damage. It's a good idea to have these tests done too. I know, I lived in Syria for 9 months and returned to London feeling worse than you did. I did survive with some kidney damage but I feel fine now if I don't drink too much booze.

Good luck and hope to see you back soon.

[P.S. there you go matey, I even added the link to the hospital for ya!]

*pounces on Mr. MoT* ya know i am gonna pester you until ya go to another doctor for a second opinion? cuz ya are the MoT, Mod and All Around Awesome Dude. you not being 100% is not acceptable.

getting in the shower fully clothed, while very green with the water conserving, and a time saver... is not something to ignore.

some of ya symptoms are on the list of symptoms ya really should take to a medical professional. don't accept food poisoning as a diagnosis.

Totally agree with everyone here. This does NOT sound like food poisoning. You need to see another doctor, so please, please, please get another opinion. If it was food poisoning, then it may have done some serious damage already - so you NEED to see another doctor! I mean it! Go! Go! Go!

Ok, Batman can simply not be sick! Who shall ever I fight crime with?!!

Sorry about the friends, it's really hard to find a couple of good one's.

Feel better, though I'm with everyone else. Maybe a second opinion is in order? Just in case, sure you're fine, but just in case!

MoT get your ass to a doc NOW! You need a second, third and fuckin' fourth opinion to get to the bottom of things. I don't buy it as food poisoning, unless you were reinfecting yourself with contaminated foods this whole time.

You do no one any favors in trying to tough it out, or not taking it seriously enough. Harsh of me to say? Possibly, but seeing as how this is your health we are discussing, and you are a friend, i will do whatever it takes to get you into the docs office.

If I lived there I would actually be having this convo with you as I drove you there. No you wouldn't have a say in it.

Take care of yourself sweetie. I worry about you :frown::hug::kiss:

Have you gone to a different doctor yet and if not, why the hell not.

If I was in the same country I would be on your door step and dragged you by the ear to a doctors appointment.

I would normally respond to everyone individually, but a reply directed at you all should answer everything. Thank you, everyone. I appreciate your concern. However, there is no need to worry - I'm fine. This blog was written to stop you from worrying. Instead, it seems to have had the opposite effect. Like you, I thought food poisoning sounded a bit silly. I wasn't getting any better, so I did get a second opinion. Basically, they confirmed that it was probably food poisoning. Perhaps I wasn't explaining myself very well, but I'll be seeing a different doctor in future. Apparently, for it to last that long, I was eating/drinking the poisoned stuff continually. (Good guess, Mr Nico!) The first doctor didn't mention anything about that and I hadn't thought about it. At first, I thought it was some fish from months ago - but that's not very likely. Not knowing what was causing it, I threw away all my food and even toothpaste etc. I cleaned the whole house (even the walls and carpets, just in case) and since then - I've been feeling much better. I don't know what it was, but I'm glad it's out of the house. I do keep the house clean, but after a ridiculous amount of bleach - I know this place is clean.

In terms of damage, some basic tests have been done and there's no sign of anything bad. Also, in my opinion - it also lingered because I wasn't vomiting as much as I should have been. I was sleeping through a lot of the vomit-moments etc. Whether the brain-explosion was caused by the poisoning, I don't know. But, let me clarify that the shower incident wasn't that bad. I only stepped in there for a moment. I wasn't showering fully-clothed for an hour or something. It could have been food, but obviously, I wasn't eating the same loaf of bread for all that time. As Ms Seaside said, it might have been mold or something. That's why I cleaned the walls. They say a lot of great writers were 'inspired' by the mold that forms on old books; someone like Lewis Carroll would be sat in a library and suddenly imagining Wonderland and all those characters. Either way, apart from being tired and busy - I'm fine. Trust me, I'm healthy.

Even though it might not have been food poisoning, technically - I called it that to avoid confusion and worry. Evidently, it didn't work - we have Quincy-fans at LPSG. As enjoyable as it might have been, I didn't want anyone rushing over to suck out the poison. I'm sorry for making you worry. I didn't want that. I was just trying to avoid sharing all the boring details, while not worrying you. (I failed.) Thank you for all the excellent advice, I'll take it if I begin to feel bad again. As it is, all is well.
