Repetition and heavy-breathing: An attempt at life.

Posted 11-21-2011 at 10:59 PM by ManofThunder

Hello. 'Tis I, ManofThunder - I hope you're all well. Once again, I am posting to the blog that's more bizarre than MC Hammer's trousers. Today, I thought I'd write a blog on the subject of something you've asked about several times: Repetition. Repetition, because that's what you need to do. In a broad sense - all you need to do. Please understand that I'm not an expert, but as some people have shown an interest in my opinion - I'm happy to share it. I've commented on the subject before, but never really made a complete effort. So, here's that attempted effort in writing.

As a young man, I found myself to be different. The other children looked different, but I wasn't sure why, or how. I didn't feel comfortable physically, or emotionally. I was care-free, but this 'doubt' remained. I felt alone. That feeling of isolation served me well, in many ways - I lived in my mind; always exploring. Self-exploration taught me a lot about myself and the world. I took the time to reflect on everything good, bad or hurtful and determine its cause. Through this process, I found realisation - everything fell into place. That's what it's about, you see - realisation. As cold and clinical as it can be, it's a process we all go through. This 'process' isn't something you can turn on and off - it grows with you. It's linked to every painfully-complicated piece of you - your 'inner-self'. Think of it as brushing your teeth. An unnatural piece of plastic, yet it's often placed in your mouth without a second thought. Some people brush their teeth twice a day, some three (or more) times. Others, never. As simple brushing can vary, so does the 'process' I speak of. In simple terms, though - it's the same. You brush as you wish on a regular basis and repeat. You may never brush your teeth, but you still follow a pattern of behaviour. In that case, never brushing day after day - repetition.

Repetition, repetition, repetition. The 'process' I have mentioned is life - it's everything we do. It's repetition. It's a comfort, it's how we learn, it's how we grow - it's the way we continue to breed and as a species, live and die. Speaking personally again, I found the answer to my problem by thinking about it, time after time. The issue was my body. Due to a combination of genes and illness, I was very thin. It was a combination of concern for my health and vanity, but I needed to gain weight. Through the throught-process of repetition, I knew I didn't want to gain fat only to lose it again - I just wanted mass of some sort. That's where my exercise regime began and it all started again. Exercise and repeat, over and over. During those early days of exercise, I discovered the 'process' for myself.

Like the teeth-brushing example, everyone has their own way of doing things - but the never-perfect circle remains. Even the most fundamental things are repetition. Breathing, for example. Or, the way we hold-on to the discoveries of the last generation and move foward with that knowledge. What is life, really - just repetition and heavy-breathing. As ever, thank you for being so lovely and taking the time to read my rubbish. Also, for your information - there are 12 uses of the word 'repetition' in this blog (including the title). ManofThunder, signing out.

MoT...What you write is never rubbish...I think the insight into what we do and take for granted everyday is a very good one. I for one enjoy my repetitious habits, they keep me on an even keel and have me look forward to what my day has to come. As an example I always hit the Blogs...I read them and occasionally post and as you know I often write my own. I then tend to get on with my day, but it's such a good feeling being able to check in on the people I've come to care about!

Hugs and more if I ever get my hands on you...then you'd really think repetitious...!

while reading this post this quote came to mind: "Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it"

Repetition, repetition, repetition--for me--practicing an instrument, or, anything new one might learn (a new language, new social skills, etc.) But, also repetition of letting go of that which is not helping us.
