It's funny the things we latch on to in our desperate moments. When there is nothing more left to help us scrabble out of the hole, the most precious things can bring comfort. In my little survival pack there are some words I will never share with anyone, a quote the 1886 edition of "Alston's Seamanship Manual" and I think it's the third verse of Kipling's "If". And there's the amethyst too.

I know it seems bleak, but its not over yet...
and so hold on.
