I think 9 inch is right about koreans being popular because they're taller and richer than most. Also, korean tv shows, movies, and music are popular throughout east and southeast asia, so that gains them prestige.

Hey, I am Korean. I didn't know Koreans were really quite wanted by Asian women when I was in Korea. I thought it was all Korean media's bluff. Now, I think it is generally true. Here's some reasons I think why it is so.
1. Korea's economy is an advanced one.
: In Asia, there are just a few advanced economies. Korea is one of them. Naturally, girls are attracted to power. Today, power is money.
2. Koreans are generally bigger than other asians.
: Even though Japan is richer than Korea, Koreans are much bigger than Japanese in size. Koreans are decendents from Mongolians who are bigger by gene than other Asians. And as the economy has advanced, their diet has dramatically improved with Western style food preference.
Actually, Koreans are the tallest people in Asia except the chinese in northern part of China. I am 5'9 by myself on bare feet and I always feel short when I see much taller younger generation in Korea. In general, girls are attracted to taller guys.
3. Koreans have relatively lighter skin color than other Asians.
: In Asia, generally, the lighter your skin, the higher your status is. There are a huge whiting industry in many Asian countries.
4. Korean dramas and pop culture have been very popular in Asia over the recent years.
: 'Korean wave' has swept across the Asia. I personally know some Chinese girls and other Southern Asian girls whose hard-disks are literally full of Korean dramas. Understandably, actors and actresses in dramas and movies are all handsome and pretty. I think this would create unrealistic vitual image of Korean guys.
5. Almost all korean guys go to army.
South Korea is still technically at war with North Korea. So, most men are conscripted and serve the army for 2 years. There, many guys are taught to be tough as a man. There is also a certain tendency that Korean guys are bulkier than other Asian guys owing to militery training.
6. Koreans are obssessed with appearance.
Appearance is very important in Korea. Girls would do what it takes to be prettier while guys also work out madly to look good. There is a huge plastic surgery industry in Korea. Even though guys rarely take plastic surgeries, they are also under pressure to look cool, so they exercise a lot and take care of their fashion seriously.
7. Romantic culture in dating.
Korean guys tend to be and often 'are forced to be' devoted to girls. There is some weird culture that guys are supposed to carry all lady's belonging like a slave, and pay everything in dating, and make events for her continously. I think this would make Korean guys seem very romantic to other Asian girls.

I am White, not Asian, but in my opinion, Korean men, like Korean women, are horribly unattractive (cf. No Mu-hyeon, Kim Jeong-il, etc.). To make matters worse, Korean men tend to have ridiculously small penes (cf. Ken Jeong, the results of the Andromedical Study by Dr. Gomez de Diego (2001), etc.).
