So I have a close friend who has chosen to change his life for the better - he has delved into Christianity and has fully embraced its practices. No more listening to music that is not Christian, no more movies that are not based on the religion, nothing. I've asked him if he still masturbates, to which he says he has not because he has 'control' of himself. I don't know if it's true or not, and am looking for some enlightenment from others. I know how hard it is to control and erection for a day, let alone over 6 months. Any and all feedback is greatly appreciated.

Most do. Those that are absolutely devout may not, though they will be few and far between. I don't understand the completely devout, but if that is what he wants and he is happy... well more power to him. It is his life.
EDIT: The only ones that may not are those that are devout church christians. The bible says nothing about masturbation, it is purely the churches that say masturbation is bad. Christians believe that sexuality is a gift from God so wasting that gift on masturbation is wrong. Catholic church thinks it is sinful for some reason.
This is not delving into Christianity, it's delving into madness. I have friends who are Christian, it does not mean they don't listen to music or watch movies that aren't put out by the church. That's insane. To be frank it sounds like he has issues and he's trying to shut down his human urges. I tend to agree with others who say people are people and do people things, some people are just more honest about it.

I think it depends on the 'devoutness' of the particular religion. I am no evangelist but some Christian followings consider masturbation a sin, but not as sinful as, say, fornication or adultery. Or so I gather; willing to be corrected.

Your friend's delving into Christianity seems to have taken a very extreme, even possibly lunatical, form. Most Christians listen to music that is not specifically Christian and watch films that are not based on religion. They might choose to avoid music and films that are specifically anti-Christian, but that is a small minority of music and films. There is nothing in the gospels to suggest that Jesus avoided the ordinary things of life - he went to weddings, ate meals (including in the homes of sinners), and so on.
So I wouldn't agree that your friend has "fully embraced the practices of Christianity" as usually understood, since Christians are fully in the world (even if not of it).
As to masturbation (which is a different point from above), I have no doubt at all that some Christians refrain from masturbation. However, I'd hazard a guess that most do not. But I'm not sure that I'd take your friend's word as definitive about Christian practices.

Some do.... and I'm sure somewhere in this enormous world, someone has the will power to NOT do it. I'm a christian, and I do it. Believing in Christ has nothing to do with masturbation. Some churches preach that it's bad, and some don't address the situation at all. Like smoking pot. The bible doesn't really address it... I personally do, and can't find a reason not to.
But they can lie, deceive and be hypocritical! Their souls are saved ( ? ) regardless what they do. Delusion and fantasy!

As a minister for a church.... I do it. It's relief when I don't have other sources for that need to be fulfilled. I wouldn't encourage addictive levels, where it's interfering in someone's life, but it's good for most people.

I have a friend who is a born again Christian and a born again virgin. He went through a ceremony where he gave up all types of sex and porn for God. I asked him if that included masturbation and he said "all forms of temptation" lol oh well. I'm sure hes got some blue balls though.
Just as long as they don't touch their penis when it is erect, they're off to heaven, one touch of a boner and it's fire and heat forever.
Ask him which is a bigger sin, masturbating or lying about it. Churches should stay the hell out of our sexuality and stop trying to make us feel guilty. A lot of religion is guilt and shame based and then they have the audacity to protect clergy that abuse children!
