"Milk" won two Oscars, because of politics! Plain and simple. All four other nominees you mentioned for Best Original Screenplay were better than "Milk." If it weren't for people wanting to "make up" for the "Brokeback Mtn." Best Picture snub of 2005 and Prop 8, "Milk" wouldn't have won that award. Personally, I think "In Bruges" had the best screenplay (adapted or original) last year.
Are you kidding ? In Bruges was absolute unadulterated shit, Colin Farrel is one of the worst actors of all time, the script of that movie was totally bizarre and utterly nonesensical. Frankly I was annoyed I'd paid to see it.
Milk was one of the most uplifiting and well acted movies I've seen in years, the script had a delicate touch and was not mawkish, or overly sentimental, the characters were well drawn in the main, though one or two were of necessity slightly roughly sketched. The performances were excellent and miles in front of any I'd seen so far that year.
I am disgusted that you think this Oscar had anything to do with academy politics, I mean I'm pretty cynical, but frankly I think you're just being begrudging. It's ugly.
I think DLB is an incredibly talented and intelligent man and deserves all the plaudits he gets. Man alive he's sexy as hell too, I mean SEXY AS HELL!!!
