We prefer to be called what we are.
I am Cherokee and prefer to be identified as such. Most members of my tribe feel the same way.
I have a good friend who is Creek and thinks the same way. (Funny as the Cherokees and Creeks are mortal enemies. LOL)

When people ask us if we are Native Americans, we just tell them yes just to be polite because we know (and it NEVER fails) that they'll never inquire as to what tribe we belong to, much less care.

I'll tell people that I'm Cherokee and they'll immediately say "Ah, so you're Native American". To which I'll tell them that no, I'm Cherokee.

It would be the same as a Mexican identifying himself as such to someone, and that someone says, "Ah, you're a spic".

It's that irritating to us.

The American government since its founding has always been obsessed with grouping people together. Its how "white" became an ethnicity to begin with despite encompassing many different people geneticaly and culturally distinct from each other. Worst of all the only purpose it serves is for people to attack a whole continent of people's actions over a specific group.

I had two adopted American Indian sons, the oldest was half Souix, the youngest, half Sioux, a quarter Cherokee and a quarter Chippeaw, and both were very well hung. However, given what I know about others, I would say the endowment for any native american is the same for anyone else. It depends on the person. Personally, I think all of the PC Terms are stupid - African American, Native American, etc. The most correct term I think I've heard is the Canadian one - First Nations - that at least recognizes their 'history'. I am even going to go out on a limb and say I think the really most correct terms are White, Black, Red, Yellow, etc. Again, they're at least the [most] accurate, it seems to me. JMHO

Circumcision is not common amongst the Native Americans I have seen naked. I know that the Cherokee are not usually. Non of the Navajo or Zuni I know are. I have a friend who is Iroquois and he is not. I know a couple of Mohawks and they are not. Nature is revered in Native cultures.
