Greek Finance Minister Abruptly Resigns

Monday, July 6, 2015 2:24 AM EDT
Yanis Varoufakis, Greece’s combative finance minister, who took a strong stand in demanding that creditors write off some of his country’s debts, abruptly resigned on Monday morning.
Mr. Varoufakis had played a key role in rallying votes for a resounding “no” on a referendum on Sunday that asked Greeks whether they were willing to accept an arrangement with creditors that would require considerable further austerity, such as pension cuts. Mr. Varoufakis had threatened last week to resign if a “yes” vote passed, and his decision to resign after he and his allies prevailed in the referendum was unexpected.

Not sure if this is the real The Donald or not. If it's really him, well, clay feet and such.

A tyrant must put on the appearance of uncommon devotion to religion. Subjects are less apprehensive of illegal treatment from a ruler whom they consider god-fearing and pious. On the other hand, they do less easily move against him, believing that he has the gods on his side.

Greek massive “No” vote to austerity triggered a wave of popular demand for referendums on austerity and exiting the eurozone?

It was reported this week that “[o]ver 260,000 Austrians have signed a petition calling for the EU exit for the country, and now the Austrian parliament must discuss a referendum on the issue.” Inspired by the Greeks, the British population is now asking for a referendum on austerity.

But is the financial world order threatened at all?

Michel Chossudovsky and James Corbett discuss “financial cleansing”, or how “bankers and their political cronies will be able to use the bail-in, this weapon of financial destruction, not against the megabanks but against smaller banks, credit unions and independent banks that threaten their monopoly of power.”

Friday, July 10, 2015 3:43 PM EDT
The Central Intelligence Agency’s health professionals repeatedly criticized the agency’s post-Sept. 11 interrogation program, but their protests were rebuffed by prominent outside psychologists who lent credibility to the program, according to a sweeping new report.
The 542-page report, which examines the involvement of the nation’s psychologists and their largest professional organization, the American Psychological Association, with the harsh interrogation programs of the Bush era, raises repeated questions about the collaboration between psychologists and officials at both the C.I.A. and the Pentagon.
