a week in uniform taking a boy home

Just spent the week taking a boy home. Not like that, but a boy who was K.I.A, it was so funny how pissed i was when i found out i had pulled this duty, but yesterday when i got back to hartsfield i kept thinking how i would do it again in a heartbeat...... the sheep walking around with their ipods and their hybrid cars have no idea what people have given to make sure they can be that oblivious to reality..... but who cares

There is no greater honor than taking a fallen comrade home for the last time, nor anything more difficult. Thank you for your service and taking care of a fallen brother in arms. Civilians can never fathom what soldiers do and go through for them.

....or what their families go through and sacrifice. I've been both service member (Reserve and AD), dual military and, then spouse when I got out. Civilians have no idea about the depth of sacrifice inherent in the job.

Hearing the news that a friend was KIA made me incredibly sad and proud all at the same time. He loved his country and served unselfishly for years. His funeral was unbelievably moving. His wife gave the most profound eulogy I have ever heard before or since.

Military people are special. Be proud of your duty this week and thank you.

As a former Marine NCO in Recon I can sympathize with you but as I am sure you know when you and I took the oath it was an oath to protect America and its citizens rights and freedoms most of which we in the military freely give up to become marines, soldiers, sailors and airmen. No life isn’t fair but look at another way…you and I have seen the best in men (and the worst), we have been fortunate enough to be put into environments where the simple things are important – honor, character, motivation, selfishness, pride, teamwork. I carry with me the same haunting visions that most of us who served in combat carry but what I really carry around is the pride that I have to have been a part of something so big a family.

I can understand your frustration but never seek nor expect that gratitude will be shown you for your service not everyone can appreciate or understand the sacrifices we’ve made but that is truly what set us a part from them.

:unitedstates: Thank you. I appreciate what you and all the other enlisted men and women do every day; at home and abroad. :usa2:

Quote from, 'A Few Good Men'
Lt. Weinberg: Why do you like them so much?
Galloway: Because they stand upon a wall and say, "Nothing's going to hurt you tonight, not on my watch."
