One of the things I hate about living in the south is that some of you people have really deep accents and I can't understand a damn thing you are saying; but at least I know its English.
Between the Asian resident on duty and the nurse from some part of the Carribbean I am on accent/dialect overload. This is particularly annoying when trying to get directions or information from a medical profession about a loved one. Don't get me wrong, I have great respect for those who work in medicine but when you migrate to a new country you must learn to speak the language of that country with little to no accent! What good is being #1 in your class at med school if noone knows what the heck you are saying?!?
I know they both got tired of me saying, "what did you say?" or "huh?" But I needed to understand.
That said, dads colonoscopy was okay. There was no cancer. It looks like he may have either diverticulosis or diverticulitis Between the nurse and the resident there was some discussion and neither mom nor I were ever exactly clear on that.
He still has a bump on the right side of his head from where he fell Wednesday night. They did a CAT Scan and he has a brain bleed. They were supposed to do another one this afternoon to make sure it hadn't gotten worse; but it had to be rescheduled because they finally found B+ blood for his transfusion. Did I forget to mention that, poor dad lost so much blood Wednesday that they had to give him a blood transfusion?
Now here is where it gets tricky. Dad has a problem with blood clots in his legs. So the doctor has him on coumadin which is a blood thinner. He hasn't had a problem with this medication. However, they had to decrease his dosage so the the brain bleed wouldn't get worse, yet not have it so low that he would be at risk of blood clots forming and working their way to his heart and killing him.
Oh and I have a toothache which has thus far made sleep near impossible. It's my own fault. When I am nervous I clench my teeth. Last night I was up half the night clenching my teeth, praying for dad, and posting here. This morning my jaws hurt and I must have a bad tooth that needs work because I now have tooth pain. I can't take advil because that will aggravate my diverticulosis. So instead I have been applying orajel. After tearing my room apart, I just found a 2yr old prescription for vicodin so I took one of those. Good thing I'm a pack rat!
