Diabetes 1.5

I have a lot of fun in here, especially with my "buddies" who all know who they are. At first, I hesitated posting this info but I also think it's important to demystify various illnesses and talk openly about them. Don't know what happened but I was recently diagnosed with Diabetes 1.5, or [SIZE=-1]latent autoimmune diabetes of adults (lada).

http://www.diabetesmonitor.com/lada.htm

Don't have all the tests back to tell exactly what's going on but hopefully I will still live a long, sex-filled life with insulin as my primary companion. As you can see from my most recent pics, I am not fat so am not a normal candidate for diabetes - but I guess shit happens and it happened to me.

Anyway, if any of you have diabetes or would like to discuss the illness, please let me know - we can support each other for more than just our Big Cocks!!!!

My dad was a diabetic so I have regular tests. He wasn't overweight either, he found it surprisingly easy to cope with, hope it doesn't interfere with your life too much bf.

My father has had diabetes since he was in his early 30s. He is now 85, plays golf twice a week, goes to the office everyday and has two girlfriends. Whew!

yes, Dave - started insulin last week - been Hypoglycemic 8 times now - best part is I get to pop pure sugar into my mouth!!! I guess there's a positive side to everything....

Also thanks for your comments Throbs and SP - 85, golf, with two GF's sounds OK with me!!!

Well I think SP and Throbby have just given you the right feedback to stop you worrying about longevity... except now you just want to be Throbby's Dad.....

But hang on in there and you'll get used to it and it'll become as normal as putting on your underpants every morning...
I mean.... you do put on underpants every morning don't you..... ?!?!?!?

Hmmm.... maybe not, it is YOU we're talking about here...

Love you my friend! :biggrin1:

BF2k the best thing is you have been smart of enough to find out what was going on. Now be smart enough to do what the doctor tells you. Smart people listen.

kk you know bf never wears undies. :lmao:

keep me inform.

BF2K you're not alone, there are plenty of people with the same problem and ...

you also got your buddy's on LPSG for a good talk

I am also a diabetic, the main thing I found that really works for controlling blood sugars is DIET and EXERCISE. I also got all the info that I could. A word of caution... Damage to your pancreas starts when your sugar level goes above 126 so you gotta really watch how and what you eat. But exercise brings down your sugar level pretty fast. So Good luck.

BF2K- my aunt had [SIZE=-1]latent autoimmune diabetes from the age of about 45. She had to watch it and injected everyday, but she lived to be 87 years old. So if you're careful, you have many more years of perving ahead of you. (and NO... my auntie was NOT a perv!)

My Dad has diabetes too. He self medicates with cheap (rot gut) gin. His doctor says it seems to be working.. go figure.

BF2K,

Both my parents have adult onset diabetes and I had gestational diabetes at the last of my last pregnancy. My mother's brother had the type I diabetes. So, I guess I have a little bit of an interest in diabetes. If you ever want to talk......feel free.

From what i understand your type of diabetes is a lot different than Type II. Type I patients do not produce insulin........and Type II patients do produce insulin......but it doesn't work right.

Anyways you have to make sure your blood sugar doesn't get too low.......while type II has to worry about their blood sugar level getting too high.

I have a lot of friends that seem to do fine. They get insulin pumps under their skin and they don't seem to have much problems regulating their insulin.

Hopefully you have a good diabetes dr..... an encrinologist or what ever they are called. Do what the dr. says to do and you should be in good hands.

And by the way, I clicked on your pics and you are in very good shape. Take care of that gorgeous body!

Geez BF,I'm sorry to hear it has happened to you,but I'm sure you won't let it get you down, right?
Right!
Hugs buddy!

My father has Type 2 diabetes and is 67 years old and still kickin'. Just take care of yourself! Super important. You'll be fine.

Remember - always have good health insurance; diabetes is expensive, with the medicine(s), blood-test strips, and specialists' consultations. I have been diabetic for 36 years, but due to lack of insurance for the first 20 years, did not check blood sugars or see any specialists until 1993 when I started going blind. Thanks to government insurance (and the democrats), I recieved operations and good care since then. Now I am under much better control, as I check sugars 5-9 times/day.
All diabetics are different in their treatment plans, but a good endrocrynologist can help you determine the best plan for yourself.

Good luck

Sorry to hear it BF2k... diabetes sucks!

Good for you to post this though. People need to be aware of this epidemic.

And while I know you're straight.... it would be a shame for your hot bod to be taken out of circulation .

This has got to be a real challenge to manage but I'm sure you will do fine. I have had chronic Lyme disease since 1992, although not diagnised until 2003, and my situation has become pretty good. I take antibiotics and various supplements every day. In 2003, I could not walk uphill, manage a manual transmission, work half an hour in the yard, or get it up. These days I work everyday, we live in the house I built myself, I get it on with my partner frequently, and plan to live well into retirement. Do what you gotta do and it you will perservere.

A lot of good advise here. I know what it is like to have diabetes. It is very scary at first but it is good to get in good habits and take the insulin regularly. Do not forget injections or skip meals or you could be in real trouble. It is possible to live long with it but take care of yourself and watch the diet and exercise. I am not real good with that but I am learning to change my bad habits.

I wish you the best and remember you are not alone.

Follow the doctor's advice and keep monitoring your blood sugar often.

I love Ya.

Hey, BF, friends of mine have gotten that diagnosis, and it sucks. Especially at first. My wish for you, bud, is that the good that comes of this is that you have a great, healthy life from taking awesome care of yourself, and that your huge schlong still bones up when you want it to when you're 95. Sending you no pity, but tons of personal power and big-ass back-slapping brotherly hugs, instead.
Kris

I've gotten into the routine and back to the gym on a daily basis. Starting to lose my small "flat tire" for the first time since age four and wake up each morning with the most amazing morning wood - endorphins flowing like I haven't felt in years. I have learned so much about how important it is to take care of yourself, make time away from work to "have fun," and enjoy life. Thanks to all my buddies in here for helping me through my personal "annus horribilis" in 2007.

Everything under control and starting a new job on October 1st - yeah!!!! Thanks for all of your support - buddies in here have been a very important part of moving forward. bf2k
