Dick Pumps

Dick pumps are devices used to encourage larger-than-usual erections, as well as being medically prescribed instruments for impotent men and recipients of prostate surgery. While some dedicated users report permanent size increases, most users will only experience enjoyable yet temporary size gains. Dick pumps can be an enjoyable masturbation aid at the very least.

Online, there is a great wealth of information to be found regarding dick pumps (vacuum pumps, penis pumping, penis enlargement etc) but the contradictory nature of reports makes it difficult to assess the benefits and risks of pumping. My review of dick pumping combines my experiences through trial and error with useful information I discovered online.

Although dick pumping is a lot of fun, there are risks involved. These risks will be explored later on..

Dick pumps feature two main components:
- The Cylinder, a tubular chamber large enough to accommodate an erect penis, and
- The Pump, used to decrease air pressure within the cylinder. Many pumps have a quick release valve to ensure rapid equalization of pressure when required.

To use a dick pump, simply insert your dick into the cylinder, connect the pump, and start pumping away. The dick acts like a cork, preventing more air from entering the chamber. Using the pump removes air from the cylinder, resulting in a pressure drop which helps draw blood and lymphatic fluid into your dick. Under these circumstances a penis becomes erect. To finish using the pump, operate the quick release valve and pull your dick out.

Dick pumps may include other items. Rubber / silicone cuffs can be fitted to the cylinder's opening to encourage an airtight seal as well as improved comfort. Vibrators may be included for pleasure. Cock rings are sometimes included so the super-sized erection can be maintained after removing the cylinder. Cock rings, which restrict blood flow to the penis, should never be worn for more than half an hour at a time.

Cylinders usually have two openings - one for the penis, and one to connect the pump. Avoid dick pumps with a third hole: usually located on the side of the cylinder, this hole is the quick release valve option on the dirt cheap models. This system requires a constant application of thumb pressure over the hole just to maintain low pressure within the cylinder. This is definitely annoying and unfun.

Also, avoid non-transparent or coloured cylinders - it is essential for the user to visually monitor the penis whilst under low pressure for signs of harm. Not only that, it is more erotic to watch the process taking place.

Cylinders come in a variety of lengths and diameters. The diameter of the cylinder should be about half an inch wider than the diameter of your penis, and at least an inch longer than your erect length. This is to ensure a nice fit as well as growing room. Too loose a diameter, and your testicles can be suddenly drawn into the chamber, a painful experience. Too tight, and you may have problems entering the cylinder as the pumping session progresses.

There are four main types of pumping mechanism. Squeeze pumps use a rubber bulb, similar to those found on instruments used to test blood pressure. Squeezing the bulb draws air out of the cylinder. Telescopic pumps draw air out of the cylinder in a similar action to a bike tyre pump. Pistol grip pumps employ a trigger action to decrease pressure within the cylinder. Electric pumps use a pump similar to air pumps used to aerate fish tanks.

Some of the more expensive pumping mechanisms may have a gauge to indicate the level of pressure. Pressure gauges are a useful, but not vital feature, of pumping mechanisms. However all pumps should have a quick release valve for rapid pressure equalization. It has been widely recommended by users that the best and safest enlargement results occur with no greater than 5 Hg (about what is required to raise a respectable stiff). Definitely maintain this level for a while, maybe 20 mins, before going on to more extreme (potentially dangerous) levels.

The best pumps can be detached from the cylinder when in use, thanks to an airlock mechanism employed at the point of connection.

The novice enthusiast should use the dick pump for no more than twenty minutes at a time, once every other day. There have been periods in my pumping life when I have worn the pump for hour-long sessions twice every day without suffering any ill effects, but this was after many years of experience.

To use a dick pump safely and effectively, it is important to do some warm up exercises first. A hastily performed cold start increases the chance of ruptured capillaries, usually almost instantly. In this situation it is necessary to stop pumping right away, before taking a few days off to recover.

Burst capillaries can be unsightly, embarrassing and mildly traumatic, however the penis will recover from such incidents. Aside from cold starts, too much pumping can also cause burst vessels. Pump slowly, and release the pressure if your dick experiences pain - dick pumping should never be painful. Never fall asleep while wearing your pump, for the same reasons you don't sleep while wearing a cock ring - your dick may fall off.

Warm up exercises can involve masturbating for a couple of minutes, applying hot towels to the penis, or taking a warm bath.

Before entering the cylinder, apply plenty of lube to your penis. This will help to avoid friction burns, as well as encouraging an airtight seal. It is helpful, but not necessary to shave the pubes off your shaft.

Attach the rubber cuff to the opening of the cylinder if desired, connect the pump to the cylinder, then insert your dick into the chamber. Work the pump slowly until your dick is erect.

There are no benefits from pumping your dick any more than what is required to achieve an erection because of the varying densities of penile tissue. The core of your dick needs more time to adjust to pressure drops than the surface does. Too much vacuum too quickly may lead to uneven development and burst vessels.

Another sign of over-pumping is a phenomenon known as the 'donut effect'. This is what happens when too much lymphatic fluid is drawn into the foreskin, causing it too balloon up freakishly into something resembling a donut. It will recover within days but not everyone desires such an outcome. If the donut effect manifests itself it is probably time to end your session.

If all goes well, which is usually what happens, your dick should temporarily attain massive proportions, a highly erotic experience. I started using pumps when I was still growing (22 years old), so I cannot be certain that pumping my dick has led me to any permanent size gains, but the temporary gains definitely keep me coming back for more.

For me, dick pumping is a fun, horny and relaxing activity. The sensation of experiencing an extreme erection via low air pressure is intensely erotic. There are many people who claim permanent size gains, but I would suggest these people are committed to a lengthy and serious pumping routine. I would recommend the medically verified traction devices for size improvements, but that is a different form of commitment and is not for everybody. But then again, neither are dick pumps.

In the following posts I will rate and review dick pumps currently available on the market. If anyone has anything they wish to contribute to this feed, feel free to join in...

Handsome Up

Manufacturer: Dagoang Assorted Co. Ltd.
Price: approx AUD$65-

This is a classic pump, not to be confused with the cheaper model also by going the same name. The kit comes with a squeeze bulb pump with quick release valve, poor instructions, a durable plastic cylinder approx 2" diameter by 8" long, 3 rubber cuffs in various sizes, and a small bottle of nasty lube.

This was my first pump. I have used a few since then. If you have a big dick it is probably a bit on the small side, but it is otherwise a good dick pump. Replacement parts are also sold separately. The pump end of the cylinder is peaked rather than flat, which allows a bit more room. The pump can't be removed from the cylinder during use.

Problems encountered: the rubber cuffs are a bit flimsy; the squeeze bulb pump sometimes falls apart, although it is usually repairable; with age and use the nozzle can become brittle and snap off (the nozzle is at the pump end of the plastic cylinder, used for connecting the pump).

Manufacturer: N.M.C. Ltd.
Price: approx AUD$85-

This is a great pump! NMC make a variety of adult toys at the cheaper end, but the Megalift Optimized Pump is a quality product.

The sturdy acrylic cylinder, about 2.75" diameter by 10" long, features an airlock for the detachable telescopic pump, great if you don't wish to be tethered to the pump while wearing the cylinder. The pump has a quick release valve. My only gripe is that the cylinder is not clear but rather a smoke coloured plastic. This makes the process more difficult to enjoy visually.

The cylinder dimensions are for the big fellows really. Even I've had my nuts sucked into the chamber once or twice ow! But there is something to be said for not being attached to a pump. It is also easy to overpump, which is desirable for some, a risk for others.

Other items include: lube, 3 well designed silicone cock rings in varying sizes, a silicone donut sleeve (for tighter seal and greater comfort), a rubber sleeve, a cheap 'n' nasty vinyl carry bag, and a set of instructions in several major languages, which emphasise the product's medical purpose as some sort of prostate therapy device / erectile dysfunction aid.

Manufacturer: Pipedreams
Price: approx AUD$50-

This is not the cheapest of the cheap pumps (those are between AUD$25- to $40), but it is nasty. Some Pipedreams products I can recommend but this is not one of them. How Sean Michael can allow his 'good name' to be tarnished by this shoddy product is anyone's guess (my guess: mortgage repayments).

It's selling feature, or gimmick, for me was a cylinder 12" long by approx 2.25" diameter. A big cylinder. But it is made of a cheap plastic - the nozzle to fit the pump snapped off within the first few sessions of my product test.

In case you want risk your pocket money on this indulgence, the pump comes with a squeeze bulb pump, a safety release valve, rubber cuffs, and lube. Fun while it lasts.

Basic Penis Pump

Manufacturer: California Exotics
Price: approx AUD$30-

If you are seeking a cheap pump, California Exotic's Basic range is sort of a generic line of good quality yet affordable adult products. Their Basic Penis Pump is pretty much almost exactly the same design as a Handsome Up pump (see above), only for about half the price. An inspection of the product suggests to me that it is a good pump for its price.

However as I have not yet conducted a product test, I am unable to fully evaluate the product at this time.

Vibrating Big Man's Pump

Manufacturer: California Exotics
Price: approx AUD$70-

The cylinder is approx 12" long by 2.5" diameter, clear, with a nozzle to fit the squeeze pump. The pump has a quick release valve.

It also comes with a silicone sleeve, lube, and a vibrating egg. The egg's remote battery compartment takes two AA batteries and the entire vibrating unit is attached to the exterior of the cylinder with a rubber sleeve.

It is not a bad pump, durable so far. It is much like the Handsome Up pump (see above), but much roomier. I sometimes use the Handsome Up as a warm-up pump for the Big Man's Pump.

My main gripe is the screenprint etched into the cylinder in large black writing: ENLARGER. Not cool. This is probably too silly to display in front of your sexual partners, especially if enlargement is not really your priority.

The vibrator adds a new dimension of fun however.

Penis Pump System

Manufacturer: California Exotics
Price: Approx AUD$190-

This is a seriously awesome pump. And for its price it really better be. The packaging bears the signature and endorsement of a Dr. Joel Kaplan, suggestive of something, probably.

Cylinders come in a range of sizes. The product I tested came with a cylinder approx 2.5" diameter by 9.5" long. The clear, high quality acrylic cylinder has an airlock to fit the trigger pump. Believe me, this feature is essential as the metal pump must weigh at least a kilo, something you do not want to be tethered to whilst pumped.

The pump has a quick release valve, and a pressure gauge between the range of 0 to 30Hg (metric measurements also included). It is easy to clean and durable.

Also included is a silicone sleeve and some lube. BYO cock ring.

I only bought this product a fortnight ago, and so my product test is in the early stages, but it certainly gives an impression of quality and durability. The pressure gauge is new in my experience, but very useful. The pump takes a lot of work, as it is slow going, deliberately so.

The results I get from 20 minutes of using the Penis Pump System would take about an hour with other 'systems', probably because the pressure gauge allows the user to accurately regulate the pressure. For instance I have found pumping to 5Hg causes an erection, 10Hg gets me super hard, 15Hg approaches the limits of overpumping, and anything past 20Hg is just simply dangerous.

For someone who can resist the temptations (risks) of overpumping, this is a fantastic pump.

Hey man, an interested buyer of pumps and a complete and utter novice coming to you with some questions if you feel up to it...

1. Pumping slowly over time in a pump that is not much wider then your shaft will make sure that you do not get any deformed looking shapes?

2. If I am just under 2" wide normally and I pack a 2.25" tube, that means I'm now a 1/4" wider then I normally am, does that mean my erection will be soft or will it be rock hard like normal?

3. It sounds like the donut effect is fairly common with pumping, will being uncut cause the donut to happen easier than normal? How can I avoid the donut?

4. How long can a new guy safely go in a day and still see gains?

5. What is this I hear about water pumping? What are the benifits?

1. The 'deformed shapes' are temporary, subsiding within a day or two. A well-fitted cylinder probably decreases the risk of temporarily deforming your cock. Some people like deforming themselves and others don't. Pumping rapidly and without warm-up exercises (eg wanking, warm showers) can lead to burst capillaries, which soon heal but are unsightly and psychologically distressing.

2. In the cylinder, during a pumping session, you will experience the sensation of your cock expanding in the lateral direction to a 2.25" diameter. It will probably feel rock-hard. Out of the cylinder, without vacuum support, your cock will probably not be this thick, but it should be temporarily fatter for a day or two.

As to erections, everyone's is different. Mine usually feels fatter but softer after a session, even when erect. It's usually the morning erections a day or two later that are super rock-hard and utterly delightful.

3. Well, I can't really say. My foreskin puffs up like a donut if I use too much pressure / pump for too long. The donut effect is a sign you are probably going too far. But going too far can be fun sometimes. Going by the images I see online of other pumpers, cut cocks also appear to show aspects of the donut effect, but honestly I am not really sure.

4. I would recommend pumping for no more than twenty minutes a session, once every couple of days. I have gone for over an hour on occasion but this was after years of familiarity with cock-pumping. I get best results (awesome erections for about a week afterwards; less risk of burst vessels / unsightly swelling; no over-tired cock) with nothing more than a twenty minute session every two days, which is what I usually try to stick to nowadays. Anything longer is temporarily disfiguring in some way and probably not good in the long-term. You are messing with the blood supply network of your cock, after all.

5. Water pumping is where you fill the cylinder with warm water instead of plain old air. It supposedly offers better support and keeps the blood flowing due to the warm water. It is also more relaxing for some.

Sorry I took a while to respond to your post, I wish you well with the pumping thing, it's not for everyone but I personally think they are great fun when used with a bit of caution.
