Faerie's Kiss

What has been suffered?
What is amiss?

He has been caught by a faerie's kiss

Now every memory that ever pained him
with its sweetness
Has been distilled into the recollection (of the touch)
of two berry-stained lips

Pierced by that instant, he may only dream
And wait for the net
As others pass down stream

(And so) he cannot run--
Victim bound by every poignant thought;
Snared tightly by those things he did
And more tightly still by the things he wished that he had done.

Neither parents, nor priest
Nor Day, nor Night
Can save him from that sweetest bite.

I keep coming back to this poem ... its sweet flavor intermingled and contrasted with its subtle, tantalizing sting makes an enigmatic siren's call. Makes me feel as if I share the protagonist's predicament!

Very well done.
