Fear of the Unknown: Then and now: About Nudity.

When in University, one of the young professors was developing a farm he and his family had bought into a managed landscape, with rock gardens, and prairies, and woods and show gardens. It was in a place that luxuriated in new plants seeding in (unlike my home state of North Dakota that is all dry prairie). We would do this in the hot and humid month of august and soon several of us were doing it in the nude, hoeing, and raking, and weeding and excavating. We just had to be careful (said the young professor) that when we went to the house, that his parents who also were there did not find out out what we were doing by walking into the yard nude. It worked well. We got our bennies (the sun then was a good thing), got an overall tan (which fortunately turned out not to have to be explained back at school when volleyball and handball began), we certainly enjoyed working nude and way back then (60s and 70s) nobody got embarrassed by a surprise hard on. It did not happen. We also had nude times together at University for the school was in a scandinavian area, and so many professors had saunas in the basement. Between rounds of heat, we would go into the dark backyards (this is a half block to 3 blocks from campus) and sit on benches or picnic tables in up to 6 inches of snow, and talk until cooled down. Snowflakes would land in a puff of steam, and we melted buttholes in the snow on the picnic tables. Once we even had a full staff meeting in the sauna, with department head, staff and senior grad students and post docs in a large sauna, everyone fully nude, even the new woman protein scientist. Not a towel in sight. Also no enbarrassing hard ons in sight. We men knew our place. And of course, scientists then had self control.
