Fitness Journey

OK - so just before I joined this site - I had ballooned 21 stone (295lbs or 133kg). This was through years of bad diet, no excessive and far too much booze. I am 6’1” (185cm) with a generally stocky build, so it didn’t really show at the time, but looking back at the photos.....

In the subsequent 18 months - I managed to get down to 16 stone (224lbs or 101kg). This is about 60 bags of sugar. When you see a big stack of sugar at the supermarket - count them! I was so very proud of my achievement.

Then lockdown #1 happened and I stopped exercising. Even when the gyms re-opened - I couldn’t get my mind around breathing in everyone else’s huff and puff when they were working out.

So I created some space at work, moved my clothes horse of a stationery bike and bought a cable based multi gym. It was more that I was looking to spend, but the stock of the cheaper ones was non-existent or 90day delivery time. I’d had a set of iron dumbells for years, but never used them at home. I also bought a reebok step (as the reviews of the cheap ones weren’t very good), a floor mat, an exercise ball, and a stand-alone timer - ‘cos using my phone is boring! I’ve also ordered an assault bike for extra cardio. So now I have my own private gym. I am the kinda guy who likes to go to a place to do a thing, so having to go to ‘my gym’ is a huge part of the discipline for me.

I’m now on week 4 of a 6 week beginner’s plan for the machine. This started at 3 days a week, but now in week 4 days a week this week. On the alternate days, I have a floor and free weight routine to get me really sweaty on the non-lifting days. This was developed in conjunction with a PT friend.

I rest on the 7th day.

Every day starts on the bike where I worked up from 5 minutes in week one to now 10 mins on each day. By the end of week 6, I will be doing 15 minutes of bike to start. (With the aim of working up to 30 mins by week 8). I find this really boring - so I put the last 10 mins of a porno on my ipad and have it in front of me!

I can post all the exercises I’m doing if anyone is interested.

I might get bored of typing this blog. Wish me luck!

Excellent! Be certain to post simple baseline pictures so that we can see the "before", "progress", and "after" images of you!

@Indelicate Will do chum, just not much progress to show after 3 weeks! I have got some underwear shots from when I was really big - I might post those. Let me think...

Certainly. A baseline shot is from the beginning of the journey so that we can see the difference!

Go Wine0 Go!

Awesome wine0!

best of lucky with your fitness journey and let us know how it goes.

"I am the kinda guy who likes to go to a place to do a thing, so having to go to ‘my gym’ is a huge part of the discipline for me."
exactly, i know what u mean. when im at home working out all alone i get bored after like 10 mins and do something else. not good. when im at the gym and im surrounded by people working out most of whom are my friends at this point, i dont want everyone to watch me do a half assed 10 minute workout and then leave. not gonna lie its a bit of a pride thing lol. its fine tho cos when all the people around you keep working and are motivating you to keep working out, it makes such a big difference to the overall workout.

"so I put the last 10 mins of a porno on my ipad and have it in front of me!" naughty!
i might have to try that. hopefully not get banned from the gym! ;D

in our gym a whole bunch of us have heart rate monitors that are bluetooth? connected to the computer screens around the gym (which usually show workout demonstrations, class schedules opening times etc but they also can show the heart rate of everyone wired up to see whos heart is really going for it and who is taking it chill. we started out putting our real names for our heart stats, but then i started messing by calling myself Twinky McThinspo or whatever)

Just a quick update. Week 7 now. Bit of a slack weekend on food and wine discipline, but I can’t be a saint all the time!

Can definitely see some progress in my shoulders and forearms, and unfortunately because of my crunchies - my stomach is sticking out further than it used to be. Oh well, time for more cardio!

Keep at it Wine0, use this progress as your fuel to work toward future gains. Proud of you for sticking with it thus far!

Thanks for the nice comment WineO. I've been doing Intermittent Fasting for the last 3 weeks and lost a kilo per week. Its amazingly easy too!
