Since I have been here, I have recieved numerous "friend requests". If you will notice, my Friend List is empty, and I plan on keeping it that way.
Not that I am an unfriendly sort, just that I do not wish maintain such a list.
I am often baffled at the number of requests I get from (mostly) men without so much as a pre-emptive salutation or even the fakest of attempts at getting to know me first.
And, then again, there are those requests from (mostly) men who believe that a "nice tits" "hot body" or "hi, hit me up" comment is sufficient for friending.
After talking with a few folks, I have realized that there are many different reasons people use the "friend" button.
1. They want to know when you are online, and want to "follow" you.
2. They want to "remember" you
3. They want to find out more about you.
4. They actually have spent time with you chatting, messaging, etc. and have found some common interests.
I'm not trying to say that those are not good reasons for friending. I'm fine for whatever reason you use.
BUT... if you want to remember me, follow me, get to know me, or even get personal with me, this is what I suggest:
1. Go to my profile page
2. Select from the "User List" - Add to Contacts
3. DO NOT check "add to friend list too" (because even if we have gotten to know each other I will more than likely deny the friend request.)
The contact list is one-sided. I don't have to accept. It's all on you. If we get to a point where I want to return the favor of keeping up with you... then I will add you to my Contact List as well.
Enjoy the site, have fun. And please don't get all puffed up if I don't accept your friend request.
