Usually these blogs are for frustrations of a different manner; love, relationships, and things of that manner, but every so often they are to inform. I am going to rant and yell, but not about anything that seems like it would belong on this site.
First, I am a gamer, always have been always will. I find comfort in playing someone else's life, if even for a little bit. But I am getting fed up with some of the current practices. I would go more into those, but there is just one thing that has been irking me.
I just finished Mirror's Edge, a game about freerunning. I enjoyed the game immensely, mainly because of my enjoyment for new ideas in the stale realm of games (don't need another Gears rip off), and there is this time trial mode. Just like it sounds, you go through different levels and try to beat the time. Now, you can post your times to a leaderboard, and I was excited. Hopefully I could get good enough to reach a decent spot. When I selected the mode, it said that I have to sign up to EA if I want to post the times.
What the hell? I'm signed up for Playstation Network, why do I need to sign up for another site's system? With some developers, I wouldn't always mind, especially if it is for some sort of massive online experience, but to just post times to a board is rediculous.
I know, I know, I should just sign up, but I don't trust EA. I don't trust their practices, and I'm pretty sure they would sell my information, or at the least send me information and newsletters all the time. To me, video games are supposed to be a refuge from everyday annoyances in life, including e-mails. This may sound stupid, but I'm sure that some gamers, if there are any on this site, agree with me.
