Glad My Fertility Issues Amuse You . . . NOT!

:angryfire2: There are NO funny jokes about infertility! Don't even try it. :irked:

In case you couldn't tell, this is gonna be a rant.

Don't tell women who want children and who have thus far been unable to have them, that we are better off without children, or to get a puppy, or that we should adopt one of the millions of orphans here and abroad. Do I look like Angelina Jolie? No, I do not! Even she gave into the hormonal urge many of us women have and gave birth to her own children. Plus, adoption is crazy expensive. Many health plans will cover all or part of infertility treatments. FYI - Nobody gives you $50,000+ to adopt.

IMHO The absolute worst thing to do or say is that, "Kids are nothing but trouble, you are better off without them." Really? I'm sorry for your children that you feel that way. :frown1::mad:

Or, and I had this happen just this week, do not give us a doll baby! Yes, that's right, one of my mothers friends at the senior center sent a one inch tall plastic baby to me, via my mother with the message that "If I wanted a baby so bad here's one." WTF?!? On what planet is that appropriate behavior?:mad:

Now, I know exactly how Charlotte felt on Sex and the City when she was having infertiltiy issues, and her idiot, husband Trey gave her a giant cut-out of a baby. Like that was gonna placate her. NOT!

I mean not for nothing but just because she couldn't have children and was forced to have a hysterectomy, doesn't mean I am willing to accept the same verdict without a fight. She is 80, 40 years ago doctors gave women hysterectomies like lollipops. Thankfully, today things are different.

Wow... that woman that your mom knows sounds like an insensitive bitch! It's awful that she would have the gall to do something so cruel like that. :(

You're in my prayers, NJ.

Definitely insensitive.

Maybe she was just having a senior moment.

(We both know about those seniors and their moments - the problem is that those moments start to last for hours, then days, then....)

That is true. :frown1: Part of me would like to think that she just wanted to make me laugh. If so I'm partial to Archie comics and Carol Burnett reruns. I just don't understand why she thought that was a good thing to do.

I think you should relax, offer a polite smile, and ignore their statements.

The problem with infertility is no one really knows how to discuss the topic. In some cases, people are so desperate to have a child of their own, they'll do anything - including spending $100k+ on treatments - so you would never offer an opinion of adoption as a choice (well, I do :09:). For other people, they just want to build a family and will adopt, even internationally, while trying infertility treatments, making it much easier to be encouraging.

Unfortunately, you never know if you're encountering the insane *I must spawn my own child at any cost--I need a womb to rent!!!* people, or the I just want to bring a child into my life people, making any one response potentially wrong and/or triggering. So, it may be best to keep the news within a close circle that understands the depth of your desires. Like me.

Just be happy that you do not hear how selfish you are for not having children. I get that often.

Oh, I would've sent that child back to her with a note:

"Yeah, my mom gave me your token of love with a message 'If I wanted a baby so bad--here's one.' And to which I am returning your 'gift' with
a note as well "You gave birth to this child--you take care of it."

:lmao: I love it! If I hadn't already thrown the damned thing in the trash I would so do that!

My point is that the part of the brain that contained good judgment and sensitivity to the feelings of others may be on vacation.
Sometimes it comes back from vacation. But only for a short time.
Eventually the desk gets cleared out and its retirement time.
Good sense is gone forever and due to the recession and downsizing is not replaced.
