In seeking to end my 15 year exile in the American Mid-West i have recently been planning on relocating to the Dalls/Fort Worth area where the economy is robust and i have many friends.
Then i realized that i was too broke to make the move. What to do now? Hmmm.
So last week i called a client of mine from 4 years ago. He mentioned that his daughter was an advertising executive in Chicago.
I thought since Chicago is but 2 1/2 hours away i would see if i could get in touch with his daughter. Former client (and wife) is also a social/party/mutual friend.
He happily gave me his daughter's home, cell and work numbers and e-mail. And so i contacted her about prospective positions in the Chicago advertising agency arena.
She was fantastic and reformatted my resume to the trade and started e-mailing it to people around town she thought could be useful as well as opening her Rolodex and telling me to contact many people with the instruction to drop her name, which i did.
During this flurry of communication with her, she offered to meet with me and prep. me for interviews. Fantastic.
I mentioned that 1 bedroom apartments were about $1,500 a month downtown (Gold Coast area). She told me that her cousin
works for an apartment rental agency and that she could find me a great apt., with parking, near the lake and the park in Lincoln Park where i could have my dog Boris. Fantastic.
So job is being worked on, living arrangements being worked on. THEN she told me that she wanted to set me up with her hot, awesome, smart, best friend that is a highly accomplished ad. exec herself, 29, recently divorced (husband cheated on her while pregnant and she found out 6 weeks post partum so she divorced him) with a one and a half year old boy which is great since i love kids. And she wants to have more. Yay!
So - could it be possible to land a great job, a great apartment and an amazing girlfriend in one fell swoop? Really? That would be quite something if it worked out. Wish me luck!
