I'm apparently not dying.

I went ahead and went to the ER last night. I was still having chest pains and palpitations, and they weren't going away, so I figured I should go just to make sure I'm okay. I had also woken up this morning with sharp pains in my left wrist that I thought might be carpal tunnel, so I figured I had better get that checked too. After a chest x-ray, an EKG, and some blood work, they've decided that I'm not dying. The doctor basically said that I checked out okay, and that whatever was causing the pain probably wasn't serious. My release papers state this: "Chest Pain, Non Cardiac: Based on your visit today, the exact cause of your chest pain is not certain. Your condition does not seem serious and your pain does not appear to be coming from your heart. However, sometimes the signs of a serious problem take more time to appear. Therefore, please watch for the warning signs listed below." The warning signs are basically things that anyone should watch out for, regardless of whether or not you are suffering from any condition... coughing up or vomiting blood, fever, weakness, dizziness, fainting, shortness of breath, etc. For the Palpitations, it said, "Palpitations: Benign. You had palpitations today. This is a feeling that your heart is racing, pounding, or beating irregular. There are many causes for palpitations, some are serious and some are benign (not serious). Your doctor believes that in your case, your symptoms are not due to any serious condition. Palpitations can occur in otherwise healthy persons who have used excessive amounts of stimulants such as tobacco or caffeine (coffee, tea, cola, or medicines containing caffeine). Also certain over-the-counter cold and sinus remedies, as well as diet pills can over-stimulate your heart. Obviously, cocaine and amphetamines are the most powerful heart stimulants and must be avoided. Occasionally, brief spells of palpitations occur in a healthy person for no apparent reason." Then it gives me a list of basic home care. Relax, etc. The doctor also said that as far as the wrist pain goes, it's not serious, it's not carpal tunnel, and it's not related to my chest condition. He said I probably just slept on it wrong or something. So that's that. Figured I'd let everyone know, especially those that I was talking to in the chat room earlier. Thanks for watching out for me!!

Meg,

I know that can be scary. There is so much that goes into what causes episodes like that. I find I tend to be even more susceptible to caffeine the closer it comes to that time of the month. I am glad you werent having a cardiac episode for real. Better safe than sorry.

I'm so glad you're okay. I know the trip to the ER was annoying, time consuming, and probably expensive. But your peace of mind and good health are worth far more than that.

glad your okay. I was in the ER with the same thing a couple of weeks ago. I do have a bit of a cardiac history though. It's not good to take those chances. Glad you got checked out!

Oh, and by the way... the hospital was fucking amazing! All of the staff members were incredibly friendly, even if they weren't working on my case. I was in and out in less than four hours (which is kind of a big deal, considering the x-ray, ekg, and blood work that had to be checked out first). The doctor was incredibly nice and personable, the lady who came to take my x-ray was also very sweet, and did everything she could to make sure I was comfortable. The nurse who took my blood was very careful with my veins (my veins are hard to find, and often times nurses will keep poking and prodding till they finally find one that works). This nurse didn't do that at all. She inspected both arms thoroughly before finally deciding on a vein, and she got it going the first time. The guy who did my EKG was drop dead sexy, and he was also incredibly nice. But yeah... drop dead sexy. Whew! And he kept calling me darlin' and sweety 'n stuff. Hehe. So yeah. The visit itself was great. I had a TV in my room so I was able to stave off boredom. I'm definitely going back to that ER for all future emergencies! (Hopefully they are few and far between, though.)

LOL! How often do ER's get that kind of winning endorsement? Sorry for your scare , glad you had a good time?:biggrin1:

Glad to hear you're not dying! lol I've experienced what you went through many times. My family has a bad history of heart disease (in fact, with the exceptioin of my uncle and dad, all of the men in my family died before 40) and when I have one of these attacks (found out after the first or second one i was having acute panic/anxiety attacks) it scared me shit less.... thankfully they are a rareity now a days. ANyways (didn't mean to get off topic) hope you're doing well! Take care, Josh
