Is Senator Obama more of the same?

I've seen the video already.
All in the government are to blame, and so are their banker buddies, and so are the people that took out mortgages they could not afford... not just the Democrats. P.S. that starts in 2004, when Republicans had firm control of both house, senate, and presidency, so trying to push it off solely on the Dems is ridiculous.

While I agree there is plenty of blame to go around, it would seem much groundwork was laid with the Community Reinvestment Act. Particular attention should be paid to the Clinton changes (1995) and the GWB changes (2003).

In 2003...

Representative Barney Frank (D-MA) claimed of the thrifts "These two entities—Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac—are not facing any kind of financial crisis, the more people exaggerate these problems, the more pressure there is on these companies, the less we will see in terms of affordable housing."

Representative Mel Watt (D-NC) added "I don't see much other than a shell game going on here, moving something from one agency to another and in the process weakening the bargaining power of poorer families and their ability to get affordable housing."

Thanks for posting this, themrsir, although you'll probably be sorry you did so in your blog... lol

If this theory of blame was accepted then you couldn't really blame any government official for anything. Exactly, why I have no faith in government. Making government officials accountable in an effective way is impossible.

It is very clear that the primary cause of the current economic problems is the bursting of the housing bubble. I'm quite confident that we would not have or would minimize the effects of the housing bubble had the proposed changes been made to the CRA. Although the Republicans had control in 2004, the past week proves that more than control of Congress is needed to make these changes. The Democrats have let the house minority prevent passage of the bail out in the form that was fully supported by the Democratic Congress.

I have made the decision to vote third party. It is the only way my voice will be heard. Without a doubt, the state I live in will give its three (I think) electoral votes to McCain. Last poll I saw McCain was at 60+ percent here.

I believe if enough people voted third party it wouldn't change the outcome of the next four years, but it could send a very strong message and begin to lay the ground work for change in our life times.
