Merry Saturnalia

So, here goes another Christmas period. Not really sure what to think about it, been a fairly average Christmas this year. Not really done anything special, but it was nice to spend some time with my Mom and I got to see my cousin yesterday for the first time in a few years.

The whole idea of Christmas just doesn't appeal to me anymore. In fact, I would go so far as to say that I hate it. It should be labelled "I Want That" Day now - how many kids actually understand the true meaning of Christmas, hell even the concept of being good so Santa will visit. Nowadays kids just expect to get presents without any thought that they actually deserve them. I think that is what depresses me about this holiday period. That and the fact that people are just so moronic and greedy - "we must clear the shelves at the store of food because it will be shut for a whole day on the 25th ... but then on the 26th it will be open again ... but only for a few hours!"

Maybe there's a little bit of Scrooge/Grinch in me, maybe it's because of my entire lack on spirituality but I just don't see the big deal.

On the other hand, I want to wish everyone a Merry Saturnalia - celebration of the winter soltace and the festival that Christmas replaced when Emperor Constantine ratified Christianity as the official religion of the Roman Empire over 300 years after the birth of Jesus. Enjoy :biggrin1:
