My car's diagnosis, my favorite porn of the day and birth control!

I was doing a search on the net and found Precision Auto Care (a statewide auto company with 20 locations) and decided to give them a call. The guy Jim seemed very experienced and after telling him my car's sympoms he said there were plenty of possibilities at what the problem might be and told me to come out and he could give an exact diagnosis. If it was with the fuel system it would cost $130 to clean the entire system or if its just a tune-up it would be only 50 bucks. I called my grandmother and we went. He checked and said it was the starter and that it would cost $285 to get a new one. We were broke so we asked him to right down the price and what for and we left. My grandmother insisted on calling back to the place where I first went for my air conditioner (if you've been reading my blogs you know what place) and they said $350 for a new starter. We now know what it is but we don't have any money. They seem to be the lowest. I called a genuine Mazda dealer and they said it would be around $550 for a new starter. I have money but I can't let my grandmother know that. They money I have was put aside for my books for the fall semester and there's no way i'm giving that up. If I would get a job they would make me put most of it to my education being that I filed independent on my FAFSA and I don't have any expenses like rent or a dependent. Even the car isn't in my name. I figure why work for my education when you can get it from the government for free. This is bugging my grandmother alot. First the plumber now the mechanic!

Oh, that reminds me. The carpenter came today and sealed around our tub. He says it take 24 hours to dry so we shouldn't test it until later the next day.

Today I started a new kind of birth control called the Nuva Ring. I don't feel it but I felt kind of disgusting putting it up there. I woke up and took a shower and decided to put it in. I pushed it in half way and it seemed like the other half just slipped in on its own. I wonder can it be felt during sex? I'm supposed to keep it in for 3 weeks and take it out the 4th week for my period. The hard part will be getting it out. I guess i'll have to wait to find out!

See if there's a local RX-7 or other Mazda car club in your area. Changing a starter is a cakewalk for anyone who's familiar with the car, and I'm sure you can find some college-aged guys in a club to swap yours out for the price of a case of beer. You'll still have to buy the part itself, of course, but that should be less than half of the cost you've been quoted thus far.

About the NuvaRing...yes, I could feel it during sex. It was a little odd at first, but it's honestly quite pleasurable. I tend to swell a bit as I approach orgasm, and at that point it became a little painful.

and someone could pull a used starter from a car in a junk yard for much cheaper. Some junk yards pull the part for you and it will be cheaper than a new one.

But I'm wondering how did you start the car to take it to the mechanic if the starter didn't work?

I looked and there is one in Washington D.C. Unfortunately I have to be a member to get acess to the other members.

He said something about the starter is taking all the juice out of my battery causing my new battery (that i got last month) to eventually die. It hasn't died yet but it will soon.

Yes you can feel Nuva Ring during sex, but I don't mind it. But the chick I know won't let me go down on her or even finger her anymore, she is totally self consious about it. But good luck with it.

That sounds like BS to me. Starters are very simple. If your car starts with minimal cranking, then it won't kill the battery. Starters won't slowly kill a battery. I think the mechanic is trying to take advantage of you.

And what were the original symptoms that you described on the phone that led the mechanic to guess fuel system or tune-up? Is this a true story?

Are you sure it isn't the alternator?

I am NOT that mechanically inclined, so I would see how easy it would be to get the alternator and the starter confused.

Like the others have said, once the car fires up like normal, the starter is no longer needed by the car... heck it could fall of completely and you would never know the difference.

The alternator on the other hand... yeah, your car needs that to put electricity either to fire the spark plugs run your head lights and dash and then to recharge the battery.

You can especially notice alternator related problems at night. When you're driving, especially accelerating the dash board lights will get brighter. As you come up to an intersection and slow down, the lights will get dimmer.

One very minor and quick fix is just to see what kind of tension is on the (serpentine?) belt. The belt spins up the alternator (generator, kinda).

Caveat emptor.

I'm gonna take it to Advanced Auto Parts to try their free starter test to see if its true. I'll update today on my new blog.
