My Music Demo

Yay, after hours of recording and rerecording I have finally gotten my first demo set up on Last.fm.

Marc Revolution Rollins.

There are a lot of songs because I couldn't some of my favourites out.

Some have vocals and some don't because I've just recently started recording vocals and some of the songs are a bit older.

That will also account for the difference in the quality of each song, but I've done my best to mix and master them to the best of my creativity.

Keep in mind this is a demo, and some of them are more like rough drafts of songs and each of them will probably change at least a little before I release them on an actually disc.

Tell me what you think!

I usually listen to these things and dread the lyrics. But not this time, 'Drain' took me by suprise. I like.

It's all quite listenable! 80s style indie rock/ electro. Nice.

There doesn't seem to be any bass though.

I'm doing something similar myself & have something like 40 tracks at various stages of completion. My main issues have been the technology side perpetually letting me down - I'm using Cubase SX & Hypersonic via vista - everytime I switch them off the set-up goes.

How are you getting your vocals on? For some reason I can't record direct, & have to do it on the Laptop recorder, which you can imagine is lower quality & a pain in the ass. Have you any tips on using the EQs better? I've mucked around with the compressor & a touch of reverb, but it's still tinny.

Your voice sounds really good on "Drain", & vocals are the hardest part to get right. All of my songs are written in my head, & I only know that the key is wrong for my voice once I've put the basic track down haha.

Seriously though, you should push yourself to get those track finished - Razorblades could go a lot further _ & needs a slightly better mix. I know that it's hard work, takes a surprisingly long time, & is even more difficult when you're working with other people, but you've GOT TO FINISH the songs to the level where the basic melody is over the track - most people only "get" the song when that's done.

Even though they are demos, get some basic lyrics down & record them, or even get someone else to have a go - working with other new people can be frustrating when they get it wrong, but you get the odd nuance that can make the song better.

Are you gigging, because some of these songs should go down very well live.

Keep on plugging away!
