Mystery Malady

So this morning (Saturday, 6/27/09) around 4:00 AM I am puttering around on the PC, whilst eating popcorn and drinking lemonade. I dropped a piece of popcorn on the floor and picked it up with my toes. Yeah, I know I'm weird; but I've been picking stuff up with my feet since I was a kid. Besides it's not like I was gonna eat it.

Anyway as I lift my right foot to put the popcorn in my left hand I had the most God awful stabbing pain in my lower right abdomen, near the pelvic bone. It felt kinda swollen, then I was sidetracked by the immense heat, nausea, and dizziness that swept over me. I have a portable a/c unit in my room and I was cool and comfy mere seconds before. Now all of a sudden, sweat is popping out on my forehead and I'm nauseous. WTF?!? :irked: When I try to put my leg down the pain gets worse and I feel a hard knot, like a large marble, between my belly button my pelvic bone. I push on it and it hurts bad, but then it disappears and the pain goes away. I stumble to my bed and basically pass out until about 11:00 AM.

My self diagnosis was a hernia until I of course checked the net and now I am thinking possibly appendicitis because I have had intermittent nausea, dizziness, lack of appetite, and consistent tenderness in the lower right quadrant of my abdomen all day.

I have an ominous feeling that this is most likely appendicitis; but I don't want to go to the ER on a Saturday night. That's when all the drunks, bar fights, and domestic violence people are in there. Plus I want a real surgeon, not a student who will make my belly look like a Rand Mc Nally map. I'm hoping I can hold out until at least 9 AM on Monday. Then again maybe it's something routine but not potentially deadly like a hernia.

Oh and the third option is, adhesions from my most recent surgery in May. That was a hysteroscopic myomectomy.

Anyone with a medical background want to take a stab at a diagnosis?

Check out mcburneys point, google it, it's much easier than me explaining it. I'd be more inclined to think that it is something connected with your recent surgery. If you're not in serious pain wait 24 hours, quite often whatever we have is just 'something' and it'll go away. Considering how complex we are it's a miracle we don't break every day :)

I vote for something to do with your most recent surgery.
Your uterus is in the lower abdomen.

Hernia - least likely. What did you do to tear a hole in your abdominal wall??? If the answer is nothing. Then it is probably not a hernia.

Most hernias are not deadly unless a loop of bowel is trapped and strangulated in the hernia sac.

A ruptured appendix can be fatal.

A fourth possibility is everything you failed to consider beyond your first three possibilities.

If no better - get yourself checked out tomorrow.

Well I have been doing a lot of moving of glass topped, wrought iron tables. I'm setting up the back yard for July 4th and mom keeps changing her mind abot the layout.

Most hernias are not deadly unless a loop of bowel is trapped and strangulated in the hernia sac.
True, dying from a hernia is as likely as dying from measles.

A ruptured appendix can be fatal.
I know, thats why I think I should go to the hospital before the bars close.

Other guesses
1.) Some other intestinal problem
2.) Some uterine problem unrelated to surgery
3.) Pregnancy?
4.) Urinary Tract Problems
5.) Ovarian or Fallopian Tube Disease

Well that's most unpleasant!
Three, four, and five are the only ones I am sure are not options.

umm ruptured ovarian cyst with adhesion - would explain the sudden pain, the location of the ouch, the nausea, the feeling of heat, the dizzy. watch out of any lower back pain, pain in your upper thigh.

something to do with your surgery.

appendix :(

Ms. NJQT - you should so go to the doctors. :yup: for all the possible "have gone wrongs in your belly" there are meds that might make delaying any surgery until Monday possible.

it's much better to go in while your stable and still in the pinkish, than to wait until it's an emergency.

ml
take care of you, pretty please?

Your body is being taken over by aliens, and they're trying to chase you out. They wanna walk around on your luverly legs. (There, bet you didn't think of THAT possibility!)

Wow, sorry to hear about this, P. If I were you, I'd manage my temperature and go to the doctors on Monday. Or, if the temp starts looking bad, I'd hit the ER when it is less likely to be full.

Get to the doctor ASAP! Do not try to self diagnose. Any of those things could be serious. We want you around a little bit longer as I am very sure so does your beau and your loving family. Get thee to the doctor!
