Organized religion is a farce!

So now that I have your attention, I would like to start this blog with the inspiration behind it:

I don't think you did take it religious. What I think you did do is demonstrate what this is all about - a personal relationship with God! Too many people subscribe to the religious principles of churches and church groups and forget that it is important for us to follow God (if we are going to call ourselves Christian) and not the foolish ideals of man. The Bible is truly open to interpretation and there is a great deal of fluff in there, but I think it is imperative people lead lives governed by the principles of love, grace, mercy and peace as opposed to perpetuating the idea that we might all just have got it wrong. Again, bullshit!

I know everyone hates religious banter here, but I was just thinking that my faith belief is nothing like what I hear people here railing against.

For starters, there is a huge difference between faith and religion. Religion is taught by someone, usually a person with an agenda or motive needing many people to believe as they do. Faith is deeply personal and it is simply one on one, you and your deity.

Don't get me wrong, religion has it's place, but as a footprint for your journey of faith. You take those basics of your religion and you form your own faith. My faith teaches me to accept people unconditionally. It teaches me not to hate or be quick to rush to judgement. It teaches me people are people, not labeled by color, race, creed, or sexual orientation. Faith to me is strongly related to love and as such, I love all people and that is what my God tells me through my mind and heart. To ignore that inner voice is a sin in my book. Hence why you see me try to always accept and understand the view of a poster no matter how unpopular it may be. I am human and I do have my fits of anger and hatred, but they are few and far between.

I hear religion and I think of zealots, Fred Phelps, The Taliban, Osama Bin Laden, The Dolginites, televangelists, etc. These people pray on the weak willed in society. They further their own selfish causes through their so-called religion. Some even go so far as to justify death and the killing of another as being done "in the name of God", that is bulshit.

No man or woman can truly know what God means by what he does. Why do so many suffer? Is this God trying to teach those of us that have to be charitable? Perhaps. We can no sooner figure out God's intent than I can figure out what NJQT is going to eat for lunch today.

As for heaven and hell? Who is to say that all the "good" people go to heaven and the "bad" to hell? What if it is the other way around? Do we really know? No, and even after death we may not know because we have no proof. It is a belief we either have or don't have.

So I hope that through this little rant, I have shown that anyone can have religion, but faith is truly up to you and everyone has it in some shape or form, that is my belief.

If there is a true religion, I would say it is humanity and the pursuit of peace for humanity.

May you who reads this be blessed, loved, and well this holiday season.

And

Happy Christmakwanzachannnumas.

I think that the most important thing is to have faith in life , faith in others beings and faith in ourselves. Most religions in their beginning are created with the good intention of helping people but ended as a oppression and control tool. For example current Christianity religion in general terms isnt what Jesus intented to be . Real Christianity is still alive by the legit christians.

I was going to have leftover chili from last night, but settled for 2 thick slices of Italian bread with butter and a tall glass of cherry Kool-Aid. What can I say my needs are few and simple.:cool:

Absolutely fantastic. Spot-on. Faith - it really is all about faith.

Work out your own salvation with fear and trembling

Phillippians 2:12

This is a statemet of faith, not a religious one, since religion works out your salvation for you.

I commend you man, seriously I do.

Good blog Osiris. The phrase "organised religion" is a complete contradiction in terms and causes oxymoronic views and beliefs.

as a non-believer and a catholic i actually find more comfort in the structure of organized religion than i do any type of "spirituality" that i could come up with on my own.

I'm glad you all understood what I was getting at and thanks for all the kind words.

Sweaty my man, you were the spark that helped me put it into words. It bothered me to see strong people on the board like Think_Kink or 36DD who are strong women be so angry about religion and I thoughtto myself "They have faith, they just don't like religion." I understand that more than they know.

Thank you for giving my hand the words they needed to articulate.

NoS? How about Disorganized Religion? Chaotic Religion? OH WAIT! There is already a word for those, it's government.

Life without SOME kind of faith is like chocolate cake without frosting.

I respect all faiths.

But I do not respect invasive religions.

Organized religion is all about control over your very being. Human beings don't need that. We are spiritual by our very nature. We are born naturally with a basic sense of what's right and wrong and we have feelings and a conscience. Our faith can only be between me or you and how or what we believe our diety to be. Nobody's faith can be like someone elses. Humans might try to teach religion but nobody can teach faith. Does this make any sense?

Perfect sense hot-rod and exactly what I think we are all feeling.

Hotmilf? How did you know chocolate was my favorite? :biggrin1:

Big Duder you have a lot of spirit. Jack Daniels, Southern Comfort, etc.

Osiris, a beautiful and well thought out entry (why am I not surprised!). I agree with your sentiments wholeheartedly. You make me proud to be a Catholic Christian.

The way that I look at faith and religion is: Faith revolves around what my personal beliefs are with regard to "That which is greater than us" and how I relate with the Divine. Religion revolves around finding a faith community where my faith is able to fit in and thus allows me to bring my faith to expression as part of that community. It doesn't mean that my faith can/will slot in perfectly. I does mean that I need to be critical about which community I have opted to join...and to continue to be critical after doing so, so that I do not follow blindly. For me personally, religion is a sounding board and not the absolute; it is a sign post in my personal faith journey but the onus is on me to decide on my own truth and how I choose to live it out.

Wishing you and your family a blessed Christmas filled with light and love!
