politeness

A few times a week I am in the chat room. I go for a private chat most of the time. English is not my native language. It often goes very fast. In a private chat I can express myself in a better way. Sometimes I chat with guys I have met before but I like to know others as well. For me no subject is limited. I often ask if I can give a compliment. I tell about my age and sexual preference.
Very often – without any warning – the window is closed. A very few tell me that they prefer to chat with a woman, another straight guy or some one of their own age.
I know that it’s Internet behaviour, but I wish it could be more polite.

The abrupt cut off is still rude by internetiquette.

A respectful post to the person prior to closing is still the acceptable norm.

I disgree .... When I go to the chat room I get bombed with IMs.... and I certainly don't feel that I should sit there and type out "respectful posts" to everyone of their unsolicited IMs.
The polite thing for you to do would be to ask someone in the public room if you can IM them.
