When I got the oil changed in my car a couple of weeks ago, the guy showed me that I had a leaky brake line and showed me where the leak was.
Not wanting to have to take it to the Cadillac dealership where I would have been inevitably raped, I asked a local business owner I know where I should take it that I would be taken care of, translation: not ripped off.
He happily told me to go see his friend Chuck that owns a very large garage/shop just up the road. So this morning at 7 a.m. I arrived to Chuck's garage where the service manager and a young mechanic put the car up on the lift and I pointed out the leak.
Repair work was scheduled for the following morning and the young mechanic told his boss the service manager "Hey boss - I'll get him off!.".
Early as it was, I couldn't help myself and piped up and replied "Huh...I have never had a man say those words to me before. You guys must be a full service shop.".
Bear in mind, these guys were about as redneck, rough, tatooed as you can get. They both just stood there and looked at me with their mouths on the floor until I burst out laughing. It took them a minute to get the joke, but once they did they couldn't stop laughing. The young mechanic said "You must be one o' them witty dudes." and proceeded bent over laughing.
You see "Get him off" meant that he would direct me as I was backing my car off the lowered lift rack so I would not drive off the rails while the car was still in the shop.
And so, my mechanic successfully got me off - the rails and on my way to my day.
