The title above encapsulates my struggle with writing. If you didn’t know I struggle with writing at times now you know! In real life I speak through a stream of consciousness instead of thinking my thoughts through. I have always been this way and it works for me. Face to face I’m a pretty persuasive guy once I get my thoughts going.
However...writing is a different beast altogether. When I write in the same stream of consciousness I find that the ending of my writing is better or more thought out than the beginning. This leads to deleting or retooling the original thoughts at the beginning, then I get frustrated with the entire process and ....
DELETE.
All those thoughts gone.
Repeatedly doing this over the years led me to avoiding any semi-long form writing. Now if you get me in a conversation I can talk to you for hours. I absolutely adore and live for great conversations. Hell a great conversation is almost better than se...wait let’s not get hasty. It’s life giving. Good conversations are life giving.
I’m learning post by post that writing is another way to feel that same life giving strength in different way. It doesn’t come as easily as running my mouth and controlling the room, but it gives me a feeling that I like even if it takes a little more time to do it.
Also since I’m just sharing my thoughts it is an unjudged arena for me to work out ideas. I’m glad I have this unprepared, barely edited arena to play in.
Thanks for reading!
