The Escapism by dancing for hours to good music in fantasy clubs lead to an overextended adolescence

After dancing and hustling at the Gaiety Male Burlesque Theater 1976 – 1978 (18yrs – 20yrs) I became a legitimate member of corporate America with a Masters’ Degree, paying my taxes to live and work and party in NYC until I was 2002, when at age 44 I was unemployable due to my disposition to drink and drug every day, which left me with only one option for employment: working as a GoGo Man in clubs around the tri-state area alongside 18 year old “gay for pay” tweens. I was still marketable, and offered the audience the old burlesque show with costumes and hand picked music from my own collection. I soon crashed and burned, and wrote about my experience of no longer going to clubs and dancing hedonistically as I was enslaved to the Industrial Medical Complex for the last 15 years, humbly sitting in waiting rooms not as glamorous as dancing in discos. Written as an entertaining and educational cautionary tale, DRxug of Choice: Pick your Poison is a journal of the multitude of recovery methods, most of which were not effective, some of which came with serious side effects, and ultimately I realized it was up to me, the patient, who needed to be responsible for my wellbeing. That meant researching on the subject matter, changing medical practitioners who I felt were not treating me as a unique individual by simply turning away from the form driven application required by the medical professional to complete. The new efficient form of medical attention that increased booked patient visits to meet the high (over 60?) caseload of a clinical practitioner. I took note that the practioner never looked me in the eyes as I answered the relegated questions, which disturbed me enough that they might get a better idea of who I am as a human being and how they may actually devise a personalized approach to helping me. Advocate for your mental and physical health treatment. I would leave any practioner that I was frustrated with and research a better one based on the referral of those practioners that could connect me. No more Ecstasy, Coke, or Crystal Meth, but Wellbutrin and Xanax.
