The individual or the group?

Society puts so much emphasis on the individual. I put much more care into what a group is doing than some chincy individual trying to leave a measly mark for their own immortality. I could usually care less what an individual has accomplished. It's a 'oh, good for you' when I'm confronted with such people. My admiration and adoration goes towards the groups. I wonder why that is. I was raised to believe in the individual. I dunno... maybe I'm a socialist or communist in terms of respect. Or maybe it's just something even deeper I haven't even begun to scratch the surface of. Maybe it's something so obvious that I cast it aside as false or too simple.

Simple phrases that get certain responses:
"I'm getting my first house!" Cool, congratulations.
"We're getting our first house together!" Aww, awesome! Where? How big? What's the cost?

Hmm. I wonder if it's selfishness in some way. As I do genuinely care about the individuals connected to my life even more-so than the non-linked groups.

The matter needs deeper introspection.

Eh, random passing thought today.

True... BUT.

Don't forget, Democratically and socially slavery/suffrage/child labor/gay marriage ban was/is considered ok. People in herds usually make shitty decisions they just go with the flow instead of doing the right thing. Of course an individual can do the same thing. It's best to balance it out maybe.

What everyone wants isn't always the right thing either.
