The Next Thing Going Up My Ass...

The next thing going up my ass worries me some. My urologist wants to do a prostate biopsy because I have an elevated PSA. So my rectum is going to be host to an ultrasonic rectal probe and a biopsy gun. Sounds like fun.:frown1:

Basically I'm not real happy about any part of this. The idea of having local anesthetic injected around my prostate is bad enough ("This may sting a little..."). And somehow I doubt it will completely numb the sensation of having a dozen little bits of my prostate removed through a needle. The real worry, however, is not that I'll be tender inside for a while, or that there may be some blood in my urine; it's what the laboratory is going to report. I hear that after a certain age lots of guys have some degree of prostate cancer. I wonder if I'll be looking at a recommendation for removal of the gland, treatment to block testosterone, radiation, or, maybe, nothing at all (that would be good!). A relative of mine tells me that after his prostate was removed he ended up impotent, and has been for the past two years without improvement. Not exciting. Labor Day week is the event. I hope I hear about the report quickly. Anyone out there with experience to share?

Good luck man, sorry I can't offer any sage advice. Thanks for your willingness and openness in sharing this experience. You never know how many men may benefit.

Everyone I know who has had their prostate removed has been unable to get a natural errection after the surgery... some even 10 years post-op still can't rise to the occation.

They do offer a device to allow you to get an errection, so you can still use it.

Make sure you get all the facts if it turns out you have a problem... in years past if you had radiation, they couldn't do surgery to remove it if the radition didn't get rid of it.

Hope the lab says you have nothing to worry about... Best of luck!!

If you must have prostate removal, remember there is a relatively new procedure where they can remove the prostate tissue and cut around the nerves. After the trauma of the operation has subsided, you should be able to get and erection. Insist that your doctors do this or find a urologist and hospital that can do it.

SORRY MAN, I HAVE'NT GOT ANY ADVICE TO ADD BUT I DO WISH YOU THE BEST OF LUCK, AND LET US KNOW HOW YOU GET ON, GOOD LUCK BRO.

I wish you all the Best Luck in this world. Let us all know what happens as soon as you can. Best Wishes.

Sorry to hear you have this worry on your plate. All I can say, my friend, is that getting this checked out is a wise course of action.

And never lose sight of the fact that many of us spend half a liftime worrying about things that end up not eventuating. I'm hoping this proves true for you too. Good luck.

Many thanks to you all for the kind words of support. I expect I'll know in a week or two what the laboratory evaluation is. I appreciate hearing what others have learned and will be most careful in evaluating the advice I am offered by the professionals. No surprise this seems real important. Thanks again.
